Message: I have a 1997 Dakota SLT King with 3.9L V6. Just wanted to share some of my experiences with the Central Timer Module or CTM that may help someone else.
My dome light stayed on one night when it reached about 28 Degrees F in a humid environment. It seemed that the dome/cargo/headlamp switch was working fine, so I dug into the factory manual and found a possible CTM connection. The CTM apparently controls all timing functions for just about everything electrical, including power door locks and security if so equipped. The CTM is located behind the dash to the right of the glove box on my truck.
I checked around; the dealer wanted about $430 for a new CTM, and they stated it did not have to be programmed, but more than likely the keyless entry and security functions would need reprogramming if the CTM is replaced. A local parts store could get one for about $200 plus a $70 core charge, and the keys & security functions can be reprogrammed by a dealer for a nominal fee if needed.
I had a hunch that it was just because of the cold and humidity, so I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery, let it sit overnight, started it again first thing in the morning, and let it run with the heater on for a while. Problem fixed, so it appears the CTM is also sensitive to cold and damp environments. Lucked out on that one...for now.

Message: CTM are program but can't be reprogram there are different
models which means there are fetures some models don't
have. Getting a used one would work but might not be the
same model or have the same eletrical features which might
not opperate certain componets. Remeber power locks,
keyless entry, delay dome light when closing the door...ect.
there options. The CTM are program to the the fetures your
truck have. Get one tha has the right features you have on your
truck. CTM also controls the time when coponets should turn
on, turn off, or stay or switch on when using your car

Message: The right side low beam headlight blinks on and off. I found at
the ctm it loses the voltage internally. The left headlight works
great. Is it possible to tie the right to the left and be okay or will
the computer sense the extra amperage draw? If so can I go
to a led bulb with lower amp draw? Rather than buy a new
computer.
