Subject: 94 Dak doesn't aways start in park IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys... I've been lurking your forum for awhile now and found some great tips/tricks on the 3.9/94 dak cc I bought a few weeks ago. Its a great truck and is prefectly solid. I'm planning to lay a new paint job on it (peeling)as soon as I can get a few minor mechanical problems fixed.
I've searched the forum and found a thread with a few posts of people with a similar problem as myself but it got a little off topic with a few bad starter posts. My truck will often not start in park unless I push it up into park hard or put the truck in neautral it doesnt crank at all. I assumed this was a problem with the neautral saftey switch ,but after seeing a few posts in the thread listed below I am hesitant to go buy the switch and still have problems with it. Does anyone have a suggestion on a fix other than the MacGyver button to ground the starter solenoid?

Message: You can check out your linkage. all that crap between your sift lever in the steering collum and the tranny. Ive seen that problem before your linkage slips and you gotta slam it into gear particullary park. the other gears arent so bad
but your linkage could be back

Message: My 92 Dak had a recall on the park rod and linkage. Don't know if it applies to 94. It would supposedly do the Ford thing, allow it to slip out of park (mine never did). Misalignment may be the issue here.

Do you mean a misalignment between the linkage and the contact on the neautral saftey switch?

Message: Actually I bought a manual over the weekend and it has a section in it on trasmission linkage adjustment that fixed the problem.
There is also a plastic bushing on the end of one of the linkage rods right under the drivers floor board that maybe going bad for some ,and I could see now how it could cause the shifter to have enough slop to not properly engage the neautral saftey switch.
