Subject: A NEW 'Dakota' from Mitsubishi!

Message:
Here’s a tidbit of news that nobody is reporting on….it seems that MITSUBISHI is coming out this Fall with a DAKOTA spin-off of their own! It is going to be a DAKOTA frame and engine package, but with their own body and totally new interior.

The reporter who saw a sneak peek said that it will be a total hit! It has sleekness and style and will cater to the SPORT TRUCK enthusiast. The interior shall be up-scale and high-tech.

So, fellow DAKOTA fans…step into your local MITSUBISHI dealership this Fall and see this baby. I know that I am. I have no use for the current Chrysler DAKOTA body style, but with the updated drive train, frame and suspension, and a sleek ‘new’ body from Mitsu….I definitely now will take a look at what will be the ‘other’ DAKOTA offering…J

Cheers!

Oh..as an afterthought...this is probably the way that Chrysler could by-pass the embarrassment of their current own body style and the sales in the toilet because of it. They have a part-ownership in Mitsubishi and that is the way they can introduce a new body style without admiting how crappy their OWN was released as a Dodge Chrysler label product. Trying to pull the iron out of the fire, so-to-speak.

Trust me...it will be backed up by Dodge, but to save face...is being released as a MITSUBISHI product. :)

Cheers!

Has been posted before. I've known about it since late last year. I agree it is a better body style than the current Dak.

Yeah, I'm sure the CEO woke up one day and said, "hmmm, we make a crap truck, lets have Mitsubishi make it, they will do better". NOT. It's called broadening your horizons, making money where there is money to be made. Step into any company under foreign attack and you'll understand why these kinds of decisions HAVE to be made. The Dakota is not a bad truck. Look at the complaints. Ball joints are by far the biggest. Although it took several years, ball joints got replaced. If ball joints is the biggest problem I have over the life of this truck, whoopdee doo. Drive train on these trucks are damn solid. It doesn't matter what brand you go to, your going to have problems, some big, some small. All you foreign granola eating bastards think that the foreign trucks are so great, no way. You try and "be different" by buying a foreign truck and later realize it was a mistake, OH, but you don't want to tell anyone it was a mistake so you need to brag about how great that little granola truck is. Here's a newsflash, THEY HAVE PROBLEMS TOO! AND BY FAR UGLIER ACROSS THE BOARD! Take your granola eatin comments to your foreign boards, this one is for dodge enthusiasts.

At least it doesn't look like Chrysler is intentionally crippling the product ala GM with the Chevy S10-based Isuzu Hombre.
But I suspect I think the Mitsu Raider is as ugly as all y'all seem to think the '05 is.
(Which seems to be considered a good looking vehicle by everyone who's actually commented on it to me in real life. Even owners of '04 and previous Dakotas.)

I love this quote:

"Mitsubishi's new pickup truck, dubbed the 'Raider,' features a 4.7-litre V-8, which is the only midsize import pickup that offers an engine that big."

It was designed in CA.

It's based on a Dodge Dakota.

What about it makes it an "import"? As compared to a Dakota, which is a "domestic".

I guess it looks OK. I'm not thrilled by the pictures, I'd have to see one IRL to decide if I liked it or not.

The inside is pretty nice. But the outside looks pretty DAMN UGLY to me!!! Better than the old D50's form the '80's. But still ugly!

I'll stick with my '03 thanks!

Dodge1, "All you foreign granola eating bastards ..."

That WAS pretty damn funny. Never heard the "foreign granola" term used before. Maybe that one will stick!

Here's a better shot of it, in red.

I like this better than the '05 Dodge'er. The sound system with BlueTooth...Hmmm.... :)

I agree that I don' like the new Dakota but the raider is more ugly. IMHO , we can all blame Daimler who took over Chrysler a few years back.

PS. My fav body design of the dakota is the GenIII followed by the GenII

looks like a smaller nissan titan if you ask me. what happened to originality when it came to design? everybody seems to be using the same "template" and just doing minor changes. take for instance the honda ridgeline, looks like a downsized chevy avalanche without the body mouldings. the nissan titan looks like a f-150 but with a different front facia.

All the looks stuff aside, I am not sure how a rebadged Dak is all of a sudden a tree huggers friend? Does it run on rainbows and smiles?

I think the mitsu looks much worse than the new Dak. Actually the new dak has grown on me some.

While we are at it, look at the above pics and compare the new mitsu to the last gen dak...not even a contest. I guess I'll keep my 02 QC.

Think Avalanche and its clones, also late90's Nissan Frontier.

But I think Pontiac Aztec is still It-fell-out-of-the-ugly-tree-and-hit-every-branch-on-the-way-down
uglier than the rest.
