Here is an origional idea for you. Trucks are for hauling crap. Cars are for racing. Buy a car if you want to go down to the strip. And quit messing up trucks.

No shlt!

It's funny as hell when I go to the track and watch some trucks beat some stupid cars that THINK they are fast.

Then of course there is always some FAST cars too.

But nothing wrong with taking a truck to the track. Especially something called an R/T.

you see trucks beat cars cause people ruin the purpose of trucks by moding them to run like a car
that and also if you match up a truck and a car spec for spec such as engine and tranny details then the car is sure to win based on the physics of aerodynamics unless the driver of the car dont know how to drive
putting any vehile in gear and moving it forward or backward does not mean you know how to drive by any means.
come see what my 8 year old factory spec escort can do :D

If the guy wants to take his truck to the track to see how fast he can go,.. Hell I'm with him. I'd be interested in how fast my `05 Dakota actually is with the current installed Mods to...

Dunno but my truck feels pretty quick anyway,...

O i totally agree if he wants to see how fast his truck can go thats fine with me. But i thought that trucks are about power not speed. to each his own and all that but seriously. Shouldnt people be more concerned with talking about thigs like. "hey i jammed a ton of bricks in the bed of my truck and man it was dragging on the ground but i got it up to 40mph . and got the job done
really now this is what trucks are built for
remember we live in a country with speed limits and you wont find any limit over 80 mph and i know for a fact that all dakotas will do 80 easily
so what more do you need

I would LOVE to see what you escort would do. I would even line you up with my V6 dakota, and after that go and put a ton of rocks mulch bricks in it and drive it home. this is a site for dakotas wether it is to talk about track times or hauling crap. so why are you even in here bragging about your ford man maybe they would like to see how fast your escort is, I would even be tempted to drive my little old honda civic with a 105hp rated 4banger knowing your car is rated more hp ect..

An Escort... If it's STOCK like he suggests, my 5000 Lb 4X4 would TRASH it all the way from the get go! ZX2 or whatever!!!

And I'd be able to haul 2000 Lbs of concrete in my bed on the way home! Been there done that!!!

hey i jammed a ton of bricks in the bed of my V6 Dakota and man it was damn near rubbing the tires in the wheel wells but i still drove 65mph (in a 55mph zone) all the way home. ...i just had to start braking much earlier and i accelerated like the escort mentioned above.

...oh and not only did I do the above, but I also enjoy modifying my truck and racing it. I only lost to my friend's V6 Camaro by about 1/2 car length. Not bad for a brick with a V6 engine designed for hauling and not for speed.

As far as the whole...we don't even need to drive above 80mph thing, you sound like my grandpa. That's also what tracks are for. Last I knew, there are no speed limits on the track as long as all safety precautions are followed in accordance with the track's rules and regulations.

I was not bragging about my piece of junk escort. I hate escorts or fords for that matter I only drive it cause it treats me good and it was a cheap buy when i had no money. and im not bragging about my dakota either. I was making the point that no mater what you do to your vehcile what ever vehicle that may be. The real performance comes from the driver. let me say it again putting a car in forward or reverse does not make you a driver. Knowing how to use your vehcile and get maximum performace out of this vehicle is what makes you a driver. Now about speed i am not grand dad i just finished a 3 year tour of duty in germany. I know all about speed. I know that my dakota gets up to 110 in o well i dont clock that crap cause it dont matter. but pretty fast. The point i was making with that comment out driving 80 mph is that why dump all that friggin money into your vehicle to make it drive fast when the factory allready did it for you . Be senseable about this. My factory spec escort does 107 mph and i still havent found the governer on the dakota i know it goes 110 tho. So be more practical about things. What i really really wanna know. What is the point?????
And dont say for fun cause i can fulfill my need for speed and have plenty of fun without dumping all kinds of money into either vehicle.

The purpose is to do what YOU want to do with your truck and money!!!! Thats like asking why build a Nascar racecar that costs 200,000 to go in circles, its because some redneck wanted to. If you dont want to do it, then dont, but dont criticize someone for doing what they want to do. I feel better now!

My explanation of why...a lil better than just saying, "It's fun."

You ever hear a song you really like that gives you that weird tingling sensation throughout your body? Modifying my truck and then taking it out and noticing the differences makes me feel like that. Especially the mods that completely change the sound of the engine...ie...my intake and exhaust. Hearing that sucker rev clear up to 4800 RPMs is just breathtaking for me.

I'll answer that one.

And it's a GOOD reason if you ask me.

I have had my share of HOT RODS. Mostly CARS.
With the cars, and when I lived in an emmisions free area I did what i WANTED to. Which would be putting the ENGINE and the TRANSMISSION I wanted into my cars. That is fun.

Once I moved myself and my daughter to Phoenix I had to buy NEW cars. Then when I moved on the west side and got remarried I got a ATV. Then Two, (four total now for the family) and first i needed a TRUCK then I needed a TRAILER!

I MISS having things like a Mustang. But face it. A MUSTANG doesn't have 4 doors and getting a family of four into one SUCKS. I know.
I also needed something to haul things. The wife says " No Mustang. You have a truck... blah blah BLAH!!!"

SO.... Why do you THINK I picked a TRUCK that is sporty, has car like handling (rack and pinion and 4 wheel disk, etc), has a V8 that SOUNDS and revs like a Mustang but can HAUL shlt as well as a half ton, sometimes even BETTER!?

Alas, the DAKOTA! I don't have THAT much money in my Dak either since I do everything myself. I plan on keeping this pig for a few years too. Imagine the mods it will get when it's Payment free???

thanks for answering me
see i have this undying courisoty to understand things that dont make sense to me
and now i can understand and see your point.
sorry to annoy you guys

you know posed the same question in a escort forum when i first got my escort. I asked why you would dump all that money in to a small economical car instead of buy a mustang or camaro or something.

to each his own i just wonder why people do these things
sorry to have annoyed you all with my constant badgering

During the summers I drive over 1300 miles a week when I work for my dad. Sometimes 4 1/2 hours to 1 job, then 6 1/2 the opposite way only to be told that I have to be back at the first job the following morning. I spend a lot of time driving and there's 1 thing I learned...have a good time. When you pull up to a light next to an import or even a mustang and they hear your exhaust they usually want to race. When you take them (or keep up while getting beat) it's a rush and you can't do anything but smile. Plus just making those drives and watching people's eyes follow you as you drive by is just fantastic.

2002 dakota cc 5spd was 3.9, dropped a 360 with vortech supercharger 8psi/gibson headers/true dual 40 flowmasters (no cats)/custon flash/reworked fuel system and other stuff that needed to be done. 12.9 @ 119 1/4th time
