Message: i am relatively new to the Dakota scene, purchased a new 2000 Sport 4x4 Club Cab with a 5spd, limited slip, and 3.92 gears in July. After 7 months of tinkering I have installed a Airaid intake, a custom 3 inch exhaust, stereo, painted some parts, new lights all around, and a Line X bed liner. I am very happy with the overall truck. I just need to go faster and stop quicker etc. After reading your forum I think I will buy a 2001 Throttle body. This is of course if the FLometrics unit isn't better. I am looking for the most power. Also the Z tube intake looks nicer than the Airaid unit. The Airaid was the only unit available at the time, and known to me also. I would like to buy headers, does anybody make them? until then I would also like ot buy a chip of some sort. Is the JEt unit any good? Basically I am wondering about the viability of the TB and chip. If you could help me I would appreciate it. It is fast right now, I just need to be faster than those stupid Hondas. Thank you.

Yes, the Flometrics Billet TB is much better than the stock TB's and he's also working on a 70mm version as well. The 68mm version is fine though. As for the Jet "chip", I know of a few who have already installed it in their 4.7's and are very happy with it. Check with Mopar Performance though since, i've heard, that they get rid of the 98mph speed limiter as well.
As for being quicker than the "stupid Hondas"...you have to remember that you're driving a 4000lb+ 4x4 Truck...not a 2900-3400lb car with shorter gears. (Yup...thst's one of the main advantages that the imports have...4.10 - 4.30:1 gears.) They're going to be quicker off the line but they do "poop out" rather quickly.
I ran a Honda Qaylude (Prelude) and a Honda DelSol at the track on this last Sunday and they're very quick out of the hole...at the middle of the 1/8th mile, I was pulling and passing them with ease though. ;)

Message: Thanks for your input. I need all the info I can get. On a recent trip through Utah I had my truck wide open on a straightaway, mainly for curiosity I let it all out. My stock guages and tires read all the way to 115mph. So since I dont need to go any faster than that I think Ill use the Jet chip. Do you know which TB is less expensive? The Flometrics unit or the 2001 TB? Once again thanks for your help. After reading all your forum postings this website has opened my eyes to teh potential of our trucks. It is a great resource to have. AHve a good day.
