Subject: Sway bar/overloads IP: Logged
Message: It was awhile ago, while i was watching the spike channel during their "Trucks" show. It was an over load that attached to the leaf springs and the way it was designed was also supposed to act like a sway bar. Does anyone know the name of this product or has installed some.
Thanks

Message: I think what you saw is the Roadmaster active suspension. http://www.activesuspension.com
Sorry I can't post a pic since this is such an archaic forum. It's not really a sway bar, just a seconday "helper spring." JC Whitney has 'em, $220. Stiffer springs will reduce sway. Sway bars transfer load from the outside spring to the inside spring in a turn. Roadmaster claims it won't "harden the ride", I doubt it and am not willing to spend the $220 plus shipping to find out.

Message: And autozone has a helper spring for 19.95. Like others, I put them on the front of the axle, underneath, like a traction bar. It's always touching. I have the front and rear sways on my QC, and still noticed tighter cornering with the Prings on the rear. Virtually eliminates wheel hop also.

Message: Thanks guys!! Just what I was looking for. Looks as though I'll be going to autozone soon. That wheel hop gets on my nerves. Have you noticed if the helper springs(from the zone) stiffen the suspension at all?? Also, I had a set of helper springs on an old toyota and they made a clanking noise when going over bumps unladen. Should I expect this noise on my kota as well??

Message: cali,
Yes, it's a little stiffer. Yes, they make some clunking noise. On an old thread that got me to try them, they mentioned buying the traction bar ends, come in different sizes, I think also from autozone.
If I had it to do over again, I'd put the rubber snubs on first. Now I have to un install, and add then.
Just remember, add them to the front of the axle, underneath, for best traction results, and stiffer on the sway as well.

Message: The rubber contact points that contact near the front of the spring.
The helper springs had a little 3/16" thick pad on them. They lasted a few days, now it's metal to metal, hence the rubber traction bar thingy ma dagees.
