Subject: Ball joints IP: Logged
Message: Whats the difficulty in replacing the ball joints on a 2000 4x4. Has anyone done this? I would like to maybe upgrade them to a better ball joint so i don't run into problems with the stock ones cause I hear a little popping every once in a while. I have a mechanical mind and dont mind trying to do this but i dont have any special tools, any needed?
Thanks for any feedback.

Message: There are only two difficult parts, separating the joint from the collate and drilling or gring the rivets. Use a large hammer and a ball joint separator tool to get the joint apart, then drill or grind the rivets off. You may want a large prybar and a helper to flex the torsion bar when taking apart and putting together (by large I mean 4-5 ft long). Its not overly difficult, but to do all 4 joints will take the better part of a day in the driveway.
