Does anybody have any experience with Pace Edwards Tonneau Covers? I was looking on their website, and I liked the retractable hardcover idea. They have an option of getting a diamond plate toolbox with the cover built in. I can't find a dealer in my area, so I was wondering if anyone has seen these things. I am looking at upgrading to a diamond plate tool box in the near future, and I would also like a tonneau. This looked like a very good idea.

I found this at: www.pace-edwards.com/tooltop

Anybody??

Thanks,
Shawn

I've got the Pace Edwards rolltop cover ... minus the toolbox. The cover works the same way though. I've had it for about five months and have no complaints about it. Easy to use. Lockable. Pretty good at shedding water.

My advice is to shop around before you buy it (if you buy it). I found pricing on the rolltop cover to be all over the board from different distributors.

I like mine. The toolbox would be nice too.

Blizzard,

So does is roll in and out smoothly? My uncle has a rolling cover (not Pace-Edwards) and it seems to always bind up. You have to struggle with it a lot. I don't want something like this. I don't haul stuff that often, but I want to be able to have my bed open without a lot of fuss.

What kind of price ranges did you find on the cover? I have yet to find any prices on the one with the toolbox. I tried the dealer locator on the website, and it came back with no results. I think I am going to call the company and see what is near me.

Thanks for you input!

Shawn

I haven't had any problems with mine binding up. I unlock it and it just rolls back into the canister on its own. Took me a while to get the guides all lined up and adjusted properly, but so far it hasn't mattered if it's hot or cool, wet or dry ... it has worked nicely.

I bought mine through a company called JnJ Enterprises for $475. I'd asked about the Pace Edwards rolltop at the local Ziebart (who carries a lot of different covers) and they told me that $475 was cheaper than they could even get it for at cost. I guess I would at least ask JnJ what kind of price they'd give you on the toolbox version. I'd checked a lot of websites and they were the cheapest I could find.

I sent them an email to see what kind of price they'd give ya. I'll let you know what they say!

Good luck, Shawn!

Hey Shawn,

Try http://showcase.netins.net/web/jnj/contact.htm

Fill in the form and they'll get you a price on what you're after. I thought they'd just tell me, but for one reason or another they asked me to fill out the form. I dunno all the specifics on what you might be interested in or what truck it would be going on.

Seeeee ya!

Yeah, the canister does take away some bed space (which is limited enuff with the quad cab). So far it hasn't cause me too much trouble. I don't haul that much BIG stuff back there. But I like the finished off look. And the cool factor too! ;o)

I purchased and installed one of these a couple of months ago. It works fine and is reasonably, not completly, weather tight. I don't remember the price but I think it was under $500 with WA sales tax. My first try at installation was a problem because the rails attached to the top of the bed really do need to be pretty closed to level. Pay attention to details and use the spacers there. The other thing I now notice is that the cannister for the roll top is plastic and does not feel all that rugged. I have not checked on that but keep a barrier in front of it. A heavy object sliding down the bed might be a problem. All in all I would still recommend it and like the look.

I was just reading this old thread because I just got the same Pace-Edwards cover. I was under the impression that this was a "no drilling required product" but I guess that I was wrong. I was just wanting to make sure that the drilling is absolutely necessary before I commit to it.

lattimer,

I had one of these covers on my Ranger before I bought my Dak. The cover did bind up as you mentioned but the problem was that the spring had broken that pulls the cover back into the canister. A new one was about $45.00.

There are two applications available for the pace adwards roll top one is a drill in system (most common) The second is a Clamp on system a little more complicated to install and a bit priceier but i went with the clamps becasue i wanted to remove it easaly if i had to Mine works wonders and the clamps hide out of the way real nice.
