Message: does the 01 dakota 4WD come with front coil springs? I recently purchased this truck and while washing it yesterday, i noticed there are no front springs. Is this normal? Why would there not be any?

Message: Get under the beast and find a lower control arm (A-arm).
On the rear of tha A-arm at the inboard pivot point, you'll find a long rod attached that goes toward the rear of the vehicle. That's the torsion rod. It works by resisting twist.
Of course, there's one on each side.
Through 2004, your generation Dakota 4x4 used torsion rods in front, 4x2 Dakotas used springs.
While you're under there, check out that fat sway bar. It's bolted to the underside of each lower A-arm and attached to a frame crossmember just forward of the front axle.
