Message: A freind of mine replaced the fuel pump himself and he is no mechanic and did it in the drive way, He drives a 90' 4x4 Blazer K5. Is this an easy task to do in our daks?

Message: umm yes and no, it is easy, drop the tank pull out the pump and put in a new one. but the bad part is that you have to replace the whole assembly not just the pump like in your freinds chevy. and i am guessing he paid between 60-100 dollars and for our daks your looking at 250-400 bucks.
Note: this is for the 97-up daks the older ones are most likely just like your friends chevy. i only know about the newer ones.
hope i helped.

Message: I replaced the fuel pump in my wifes 93 4x4 Dak. It cost me $86. It seemed easy to me. Make sure you are on fumes before you try lowering the fuel tank. Gas is pretty heavy. Make sure you put the fuel float back in in the right direction. I made this mistake and had to drop the tank a second time.

Message: I started looking for my fuel filter and discovered that it is part of the pressure regulator and not to be replaced unless it is contaminated it some way. This surprised me that DC would not put some sort of replaceable fuel filter on the Daks..

Message: Mark I can not coment on the 1990 off the top of my head but all of the Newer GM products have what is called Module F/TNK/PMP. It has the sender, float and Pump built as one unit that must be replaced. They run between $200.00-$600.00 depending on what end of the supply chain your on. It used to be that the individual parts where servicable. Some of them still have changeable in TNK screens.Trivia: If your fuel pump runs for 20 seconds with out fuel flow your pump will be permanetly damaged and my sieze up on the spot!

Message: not sure on the 20 seconds but i do know that fuel pumps use the fuel to lubricate the internals of the pump so running with no fuel for any amount of time would not be good for it. which is why you should try not to run the vehicle out of gas(in thinking you would have to put direct pressure on the pump since most cars have a safty circit or relay that will not allow it to run for more than like 5 seconds with out building pressure, so that if you cut afuel line you would not be able to pump all the gas out on the ground). and yes you are correct on the fuel pump on newer gm's especially vortec trucks have to have the whole assembly replaced.
and rascal i dont know who told you that the fuel pressure regulator was where the filter is located. i was under the impression that it was part of the pump assembly but the regulator makes more sense to me.

Message: No one told me, its in the service manual. The pressure regulator/filter are part of the fuel pump though, so you are correct also. You have to drop the tank to service any of those items.

Message: The Dodge garage says my fuel pump is bad. I've run out of fuel a few times because my gas guage intermittantly stops working. Anyway, they wanted $450 for the parts, another $225 for the labor. I found the assembly on an on-line parts supply for ony $209. I'm still waiting for it to arrive and hopefully it's the right one. I'll be pissed if I drop the tank only to find it doesn't fit. I'll keep y'll posted........

Message: Its really not that hard. put a jack with a 2x6 on it under the tank, loosen the tank straps and lower it you can see the connections. whatch out fuel sprays out of the quick connect fitting if you don't relieve it. disconnect electrical, fill hose, vent hose. push the tank from front to back so it slides from the straps. then take off the cover it looks like a big jar lid. suppose to use a special tool but a screw driver and hammer works fine to get it moving. the pump, reg, float and filter assemlby comes right out. the pump is expensive but check with holley they have a bigger volume performance pump that is actually cheaper then the stock one

Message: In line fuel pump would be alot more money. you would have to re do the whole system. you would have to run a return line to the tank. and how you would reuse the high pressure plastic fuel line i don't know. basically that would require runnig all new lines. If interested check out krc performance. I believe marty has a kit. If you want the Holley intank pump (if shipping yet, Iordered one last winter but wern't in full production yet. should be now. Holley fuelpump #12-922 about price of $206.39

Message: Just to follow-up....I replaced mine in 90 minutes by dropping the tank rather than removing the bed. Only two rusty bolts about 4 inches longer than they needed to be. If it wasn't for that, probably would've only taken 20 minutes. Still, an easy job for a do-it-your-selfer.

Message: My fuel pump went out right after I bought gas.
The rollover valve will not let me get a siphon hose into the tank. Will it drain completely through the frame filter line? Read several messages about the cost of fuel pump. So far I have three prices ranging from $294 to $164. Any suggestions about different manufacturers? This is for a 92 Dak 3.9 V6

Message: I just had my fuel pump replaced on my 99 Dakota V-6 at the dealer due to some bad gas I got. The price of the pump alone was around $500.00. But I didn't have to foot the bill for it .So i didn't really care. By the time it was all said & done it cost Diamond Shamrock $1600.00 to repair my truck because they sold me a tank of water.

Message: Finished fuel pump replacement on my 92. I've actually done it twice in about 4 years. This time I had some difficulty getting the siphon past the ball in the filler tube, but I got it!
The first time I replaced just the pump itself. About $80.00. This time I replaced the entire module,$164.00. The parts dealer recommended it. He says manufacturer recommends it if you have replaced the pump only previously. I think it may be because of the primary filter which is molded into the bottom of the module. You can replace the secondary filter but not the primary and I guess they think it is no good if you have already gone through two pumps. Richard should just bend the straps down out of the way. It may take some wiggleing to get past the driveshaft.

Message: Does anyone know what wire is the power wire or ground wire for the fuel pump. I want to install a switch like a fuel pump cut off so if someone tries to steal my truck the fuel pump will shut off and the engine will stop running. Its a 2002 dodge dakota. I've done this on my civic but i'm not shure what wire to cut on the dak.
Thanks
