In May I went to order a 2001 Dakota, and just missed the cut off date for 2001 Dakota's. So, I ordered a 2002. I was concerned about the 2000.00 rebate, the dealer and I looked at the past history record for 2001, 2000, 1999, and 1998. The 2000.00 rebate was rolled over for each of the new years. The dealer felt confident that it would be the same for 2002. The truck is due the second week of Sept. and I got the bill of sale yesterday. Of course there is only a 1000.00 rebate. I'm not going to suck up the 1000.00 diff. I'm looking for suggestions on what I might be able to do to get that 1000.00 back. Thank you very much for your time and help.

When you're buying a car, you're in control. If you don't like the price or you feel you're getting ripped off, ask him to take the price down a bit. If he says he can't do it, say you'll come up with a compromise... tell him to throw on a bedliner, a tonneau cover, tint the windows...there's a ton of things that you can do.

Tell him to rust-proof the truck for free, or throw in a coupon for a free detail...there's something you can do to get the "lost money" back because in car-selling, it's either feast or famine... Sometimes, the only way to get a good deal is to luck out and get a salesman who's having a bad month.

Are you paying MSRP or something like $300 over invoice. If you are paying MSRP I'm sure they could make up that $1000 to keep you from walking. They may try to keep any deposit unless you got the rebate thing in writing. I too ordered a 2001 R/T a week before the cutoff. They ended up not being able to biuld it as a 2001 and wanted to make it a 2002. They offered to build it as a 2002 with the same options and not charge the price increas (only about $150) but they would not promise the $2000 rebate (or any rebate for that matter) I cancelled the order, got my deposit back and found a 10000 mile 2000 in the color I really wanted (yellow) and saved over $1000.

Has anyone heard that the motorsport package is not going to be available for 2002? I think it is well worth $500. But one dealer I went to a few weeks ago said MS package would not be available for 2002.
