Yesterday, on my way home from a cruise night, I heard a snapping sound and now my right rear wheel locks under hard braking. It is an 89 Shelby Dak and has rear wheel anti-lock. The anti-lock light is off. DK what the problems is. Also, rear brakes are new with less than 500 miles on the brakes.

You'll need to pull the drum and take a look - probably some of the brake pad retaing hardware has come apart, allowing the pad to shuck around.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Pulled the right rear drum and everything looked ok. I did drive in reverse and apply the brakes several times and that seemed to do the trick. Stops fine now. One thing I noticed is that when
I pull on the wheel (fully tightened, but on teh jack stand) I have a lot of play in the backing plate.

Tighten the backing plat or put on new plates, they may be egg shaped where they connect to the axle. That may be the problem why your brakes are locking.
