Does anyone know if the dakotas (4.7) are supposed to start up and run with the throttle at wide open or will it just crank over without actually starting up and running?

why in the world would you rev up an engine to extremly high speeds before the oil gets a chance to lube all the bearings?
in other words you are an idiot for thinking that WOT is the way to start your engine, any FI engine for that matter, especially since the "OWNERS MANUAL" tells you not to.

this must be your first fuel injected vehicle. your not suppose to touch the throttle. the computer controls the fuel delivery to start the engine. why would you want to WOT your enginge on start up anyway?

Start up on computer controlled vehicles should start up and idle without touching the gas pedal. That's assuming everything is aok and within specs.

I don't know about the 4.7 but the 5.2/5.9 computers have a "not too well known" mode of operation (as can be seen from previous messages) referred to as "clear flood mode". In the event of a flood condition, for whatever reason, you can get it started immediately by putting the gas pedal to the metal, holding it there and then tuning the ignition key to START. It will almost always fire up immediately so once it does ease off the pedal right away (do not want rpm to reach above redline). You may have to hold the pedal down ever so slightly until the computer has had time to figure things out.
