Subject: Westin Safari Light Bar Install Report

Well I purchased a Westin Safari Light Bar from Summit on friday. Showed up on Saturday (you have to love that next day free freight). Basically I wanted to let you guys know a few things about this thing.

First and foremost, this install involves removing 4 bolts per side, which is really no big deal, but these bolts are in a high corrosion area so be prepared to spend a few days soaking them in WD-40 or whatever antirust lubricant that you have around prior to attempting to remove them. You will want to jack up the truck to make this an easier process. Rhino Ramps or any truck ramps that lift enough to perform an oil change will do nicely.

Secondly, If you have had a front end collision, any sort of bump or bang to the front end to cause noticable damage, this will be a tough install. I was sandwiched in a car wreck a few months ago, and my front end took about 30mph worth of impact on the person in front of me. Tough install, some warping of the bumper after I removed and retightend the bolts.

Third, Safari bar barely fits with a custom bumper cover on. Mainly the bottom of the bumper covers rubs against the bar, but still fits. I have the Stillen Bumper cover and I wasn't willing to remove it to make room.

Final notes, this would have been the easiest of installs for a brush guard I would have ever had if my truck wasn't banged up. I love the construction and the brackets are a bit strange but practicle. Hope this thing holds together after I messed with it.

I just posted a few days ago about how much those things rock. Had a decent fender bender - took out a Mazda Millenia bumper with it - w/only a ding in the actuall guard itself,,and the hangers were warped. My truck was perfect. My brother also wrecked it while teaching him how to drive,,both time probably 10mph'ish stopped cold,,no damage to the truck. I wouldn't figure it to be that strong,,,but it is. Definitely getting another. I could get away w/ordering some more hangers really. Those bumper bolts are a bizatch!
