Subject: Rear Bumper install IP: Logged
Message: Hello everyone...
Got rear-ended a few weeks ago and my bumper needs to be replaced. I was wondering how difficult it is to remove and install one of these, as I'd like to save a little money out of the insurance check I received--buy the aftermarket bumper and install it myself.

Message: Its rather easy, Its onlu 4 or 6 bolts, I dont remember. I know what you are going through, been there done that. I made a deal with the repair shop, instead of them buying a new bumper I would buy a rollpan and they would paint and install it. They can still claim the ammount of the bumper to the INS.Co. and they keep the balance.

Message: Rear bumper R&R is pretty easy. Some aftermarket bumpers are pretty heavy; so you need two people or creative jack use.
However, it may not be as simple as that. The damage probably extends into the mounts, and possibly to the frame.

Message: Not to "dis" bob, but I would bet it is just the mounts and not the frame. Either way, it is just a handfull of bolts. Just make sure you get the bumper AND the mounting brackets. If you ever plan to tow anything with a ball on the bumper, then I would definitely look at the frame and make sure it is not damaged.
