Subject: Rear Bumper install

Message:
Hello everyone...

Got rear-ended a few weeks ago and my bumper needs to be replaced. I was wondering how difficult it is to remove and install one of these, as I'd like to save a little money out of the insurance check I received--buy the aftermarket bumper and install it myself.

Its rather easy, Its onlu 4 or 6 bolts, I dont remember. I know what you are going through, been there done that. I made a deal with the repair shop, instead of them buying a new bumper I would buy a rollpan and they would paint and install it. They can still claim the ammount of the bumper to the INS.Co. and they keep the balance.

Rear bumper R&R is pretty easy. Some aftermarket bumpers are pretty heavy; so you need two people or creative jack use.

However, it may not be as simple as that. The damage probably extends into the mounts, and possibly to the frame.

Not to "dis" bob, but I would bet it is just the mounts and not the frame. Either way, it is just a handfull of bolts. Just make sure you get the bumper AND the mounting brackets. If you ever plan to tow anything with a ball on the bumper, then I would definitely look at the frame and make sure it is not damaged.
