Alec - why would Dodge want to develop a v8 turbodiesel when they already have an excellent 5.9 inline 6 turbodiesel that puts out 325 hp & 610 torque ? You are mistaken about the Liberty motor - that diesel is a 2.8 inline 4 with 160 hp, 295 torque; while the Sprinter diesel is a 2.7 inline 5 with 154 hp, 253 torque.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

That little 2.8 would be a good option for the dak. The hp and tq numbers may seem a little low, but I bet it would be a good match up for most of the people that would want the option. They could always massage it a little for more power if needed.

My bad on the diesel engines...i thought thats how it was. oh well. The Cummins 600 won't fit well in a Dakota...I'd like to see someone do it....cmon someone....haha. A turbo diesel in the Dakota would be awesome though.

A couple of years ago, Car & Driver did put a Cummins in a dakota, and hold the world speed record for a diesel truck at over 200 mph!
