Subject: vibration with wind at high speed
IP: Logged

Message:
I get a vibration that seems to come at speeds of 100-above km/hr on windy days on the highway, drives me nuts. I have a bug deflector, thinkin that this may be the cause doesn't feel like its the suspension. Gonna remove my deflectoer and check it out. Already removed my antenna, wasn't it. Anybody experience this. Any advice? thanks

The truck is completely stock otherwise and the sound is from the front end sounds like the hood or under hood and only happens on windy days. It does sound closer then the bug deflector.

While you're haulin down the road feeling these vibrations, hit the windshield washers and see if the vibration quits when the wipers move.
Could it be something on or in the grill?
Piece of wheel well plastic liner flappin in the breeze?
Something stuck under the vehicle you don't know about yet?

You can probably rule out the bug deflector (if it's a Lund) and antenna. I have both, & I haven't noticed this problem at speeds regularly over 140-180 kph. Do you have the little door rain guards? I had one of mine come loose once & was about the same.

I had the same experience. It was a loose rivet on the bug deflector.

the bug deflector has dodge on it, don't have the rain guards, my mud guard in the back is loose could be that ...thanks guys , i'm gonna take things off this weekend and try and rule out some stuff. tried the wiper thing, didn't appear to be it , and there's no foreign objects , checked that out too. Haven't taken the bug guard off yet as the little guardsmay need the lights removed to uninstall

I had a simular perception of vibration, specially immediately after opening the door windows.
I do not have that any more, "coincidently", after i instaled the Edelbrock IAS shocks.
Just showing one more thing to relate to.

If you have one of those straight up and down bug
shields, it is more than likely your problem. I
had one and I didn't get vibration (because I
never went beyound 80 MPH) but the wind noise over
the hood drove me nuts.

I trashed it and installed the tapered one and no
more problems.

My deflector is the tapered kind. But,the vibration has stopped, i simply put my "bug" grill inserts back in and boom no vibration (so far). So i'm thinkin its under the hood thats causing the vibration, glad its gone. Geez it was irritating.
