Subject: 4X4 Shifter Shakes IP: Logged
Message: ok, I have a '99 Dakota 318 4X4 with 130,000 miles on it. The truck(and shifter) was shaking pretty badly and I replaced the universal joints which helped a lot but recently I have noticed that the 4x4 shifter on the floor is moving when I shift into reverse. Also if I get on the throttle I can see it move.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
Tranny/Engine mounts?
Thanks...

Message: That would be engine torque you're seeing. The engine and transmission are mounted on rubber isolators to reduce noise and vibration in the cab. That visible movement is how much the rubber mounts are giving way under torque, 'tis normal.
