For those of you with late-model R/T’s…

I just got back from my dealership where my complaint was that the transmission would NOT shift out of first gear under heavy to wide open throttle.

After a road test with the shop foreman, where this condition was evident to him, he told me what the proper fix and procedure is for this complaint.

To totally investigate this non-shift-from-first complaint, they must:

1. Drop the transmission pan.
2. Visually inspect ALL the seals and bands of the transmission.
3. If any seals are found to be not in tolerable limits, they are to be TOTALLY replaced as a set.
4. If any bands are out of adjustment, or if upon inspection they appear to be burnt or pitted, they are to be replaced with new as needed.
5. All clutches are to be inspected and replaced if found defective.

All of the above can as a whole, or as a singular issue, cause the original complaint. Merely replacing a pressure valve like the Governor Pressure Valve is not addressing the deeper internal issue. If fact, if your Governor Pressure Valve was defective, the transmission would only operate from third!!! That is the sure sign of this part failing.

So, with the above, my dealership has my 2003 R/T C.C. booked in, and it will not leave the dealership until the complaint has been eradicated.

Don’t let your dealership give you the ‘finger’ by merely doing token work such as adjusting the kick-down cable coming off the top of the engine. That is NOT the called-for diagnostic procedure to find the TRUE cause of the failure of the transmission to up-shift out of first under heavy to full-throttle application.

Also, don’t let the dealer BULL-SH*T you by telling you that full-throttle operation is considered by Chrysler as owner-abuse and can pull your warranty. That is crap. The machine must be capable as built of delivering to you 100 percent of the power and torque band of the engine as shipped from the factory. Occasional full-throttle operation is asking the motor for 100 percent of its SAFE output. Only OVER-REVVING will be considered abuse.

I had my Service Advisor tell me that the mechanic that contacted Chrysler was advised by Chrysler (according to what was relayed to me via the Service Advisor) that full-throttle operation was considered OWNER ABUSE. The Service Shop Foreman told me that was a load of crap!!!!! Chrysler has an issue with this not shifting out of first, and wants to deal with it by Customer MISINFORMATION and warranty-withdrawal intimidation. The BOTTOM LINE…if they (CHRYSLER) denies your warranty because you have used your vehicle under full-throttle operation and NOT exceeded the red-line (by use of the Speed Governor) then the next phone call you make should be to your lawyer…..and go from there…..

I’m lucky that my dealership cuts out the BULL-SH*T and is willing to take the transmission down to the part that is causing this, rather than just blowing me off by any number of verbal excursuses for the transmission not up shifting under heavy to full throttle operation.

I hope that this report helps others on this forum,

Its got so bad that the dealerships must have "50 ways to BS your automatic transmission customers" classes for the service depart.
