I get hot air out the vents when stopped at a light or right after restarting the engine. The engine is warm. The outside temp may be cool - I.E. 60 degrees. After I start driving, the air eventually gets cooler - but still not as cool as the outside air. I would expect to get cool air out of the vents. The A/C and heater work okay. The temp control is on max cold. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I have a similar issue with my 2000 4.7 The vent air is always noticeably warmer than ambient. It's mostly annoying, but if anyone has a solution, it would be appreciated.

I think the main problem is that hot water circulates through the heater core even with the a/c on. No vacuum or electric valve as in other vehicles. Some people install a manual valve, others disconnect/loop heater hoses during the Summer.

Search around a bit, this has been discussed before. Part of the problem is the constant water re-circ going through the heater core.

I, and many others, have installed a checkvalve to stop the coolant flow in the warm months. But I don't notice much difference in the vent air with the valve open or closed. Some find the AC functions better, but I haven't stuck a thermometer in the vents with the AC on to check it myself.

Thanks to all for the response. It looks like a design problem. My A/C is off during this problem.. I just want outside air. I was beginning to think that the outside air is ducted into the system within the engine compartment - thus hot air while standing and cooling off after moving down the road.
