Subject: ventshades...glue or snap in??? IP: Logged
Message: I want to get ventshades or the like for my truck. Love the fact of having the window open a bit in the rain and staying dry at the same time. Question is, do I go with the 3M stick on type or the once that snap in the window channel. Experience??? Thoughts??? Which would you get???
Thanks!

Message: DO NOT GET THE IN CHANNEL SHADES! The reason I say this is because my truck came with them already on and after driving it for about a week I noticed that when I was rolling the windows up there was a grinding or scraping noise on the glass. Turns out that when it is raining or there is moisture outside and your windows get rolled down, dirt and other abrasive sorts of things stick to the window and to the exposed felt on the channel. When the window is rolled back up, all of the grip is ground between the glass and the plastic portion of the shade. This leaves about a half inch of bad scratches along the top of the glass. It appears that mine had them on for quite a while and it is too late now - lots of deep scratches. That is my opinion.

Message: I have the stick on as well, but experienced an increase in wind noise while driving. Not sure if the in channel ones would have made a difference or not, just my two cents.

Message: I have the in-channel ones on my 2005 QC and have had no problems with them.
I understand the problem that Hoss01 is talking about. The windows do rub against the deflectors when you roll them all the way up. I don't have any big scratches yet but I can see them happening.
The major reason I got them is because I have had the taped on ones fly off on the highway. There are other people that have had the same thing happen.
I also like the look of the in channel ones as it looks more like a factory job instead of an afterthought.

Message: I've had the in-channel in my 02 for about 3 years without a problem ... and they look better than the stick ons due to the Dakota design of no outer rubber seal around the window.

Message: I had the in-channel smoked WeatherTechs on my '01 CC and they were great. No problems with glass scratching, etc.
Tried a pair on my '04 and they didn't fit at all. The AutoVent shades were too tight and out of wack with the changed door frame in the Quad and the glass scratched them up.
If I could find a proper fit I'd get an in-channel set for the Quad too....
