I have a very good friend who is a 5 star Chrysler and Jeep (and soon Dodge) dealer in Ohio, and he has heard some rumors from upper management about what might be the future of this company. One of the major ideas circulating around would be to divide the three major divisions (Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep) into there best selling categories, which would be as follows. Dodge would sell all performance vehicles (Viper and SRT line), trucks, and utility vans, Chrysler would sell all cars and minivans, and Jeep would sell the SUVs.
Although this may seem like a wise move, or dumb move depending on your opinion, I'm having a hard time seeing this in action. With all the new concepts and real vehicles being put into action by this company they are not seeming to show the change, aka the Charger and Magnum are sweet new cars developed for Dodge, and the Caravan is still the oldest and best selling minivan. Also what is to happen to the Stratus and the Caliber (neon replacement). Also the Jeep Gladiator is a new concept (truck).
I've posted this to get others opinions on a possible move in the companies direction.

. What stated might be rumors but I've herd of some change's wanting to be made at the company. You ever herd of Chryslertakeover.com? Its a web site that no longer exist but it gave some good information about what was going on inside the company and exposing some of Daimler big shots plan for the Chrysler group.

One of the plans came ture.. And that was to hack off Plymouth from the line up. Of course it was a very deluded brand with absolutely no personality of its own. There was some plans to revive the historic name plate. Instid they axed it rebaged all the Plymouth Chryslers.

As for Dodge; this could get very interesting. The chryslertakeover webstite warned that Daimler Benz was going to replace the Dodge Ramwagon with the now Sprinter that really Feightliner product with Dodge badging. Not to mention it uses a Mercedese diesal engine.. If Jurgen (CEO) had its way the entire Chrysler group would be using Mercedese powerplants including a diesal for the Ram. Also there are some rumors that the Dodge truck line up could be using Frightliner badging

From what I have heard and seen, diamler is starting to pull back some of its cross pollination of dodge/benz.. they created the crossfire, which uses many mercedes parts but sells at a much lower cost then mercedes. Consumers caught on and start to question the mercedes quality and price. Diamler stated that they would not be continuing this practice.
As far as Freightliner, I dont see that happening. The dodge trucks are Light Duty, Freightliner is Medium and Heavy duty. To introduce Light Duty trucks would bring down the impression of Freightliner. Also then freightliner dealers would have to regroup and restock. The Medium/Heavy truck world is totally different then Car and Light Truck. To Freightliner, the Ram might as well be a station wagon.
I am still a bit upset about the end of "trail rated" jeeps. All jeep models were required to run the Rubicon before production began.. Diamler thought this was a rediculous practice... too bad..
From what I have heard and witnessed from German automakers.. I hope they dont push too many of thier ideas on the Domestic car world.. there is a reason I buy Domestic...
