Subject: 02 stock radio fit 99? IP: Logged
Message: Good evening all, have a quick question. I have a 02 Dakota R/T that came with the infinity stock cd player/casette/radio. I recently have replaced it. However, my dad has a 99 Dakota R/T but with just the stock radio that came with it then, no cd player, just the cassette player. Since my parents have recently discovered CD's, I would very much like to swap his old radio in the 99 with mine out of the 02, but I'm curious if it will fit. I'm thinking the wiring may be different, but can buy an adapter for that. If anyone knows they will swap nicely I'd love to know. Thank you for your time.

Message: The wiring should be the same, but I think the radio design changed with the rounded edges to conform with the volume and tuning buttons, but I'm not sure. If both radios look boxy, it will fit.

Message: I think mine is still up in my closet. It has the rounded edges.
Mine came with the stock radio/CD player. When I got it home I pulled it out to drop in my mp3/CD player I already had.
Then about 6 months ago or so I yanked out that head unit as well when I installed my PC based stereo system.
I've still got to mount my touch screen a little better than I've had it.
I was day dreaming about it yesterday on my long drive back from Tuscon to West Phoenix area where I live.
I wondered if I could relocate my heater/AC controls down a little lower to fit a larger LCD monitor in there???
Anyway. Funny your parents finally caught up with the CD. I've already went through mp3/CD technology and still got tired of only 150 songs on a disc. So the few thousand I have on the 120 Gig HD in my truck seems to be holding me over for now

Message: Check the wire harness connectors in the back of the units. DC used a two-connector type and a 1-connector type during that general time period, the one-connector type being more prevelent in the newer vehicles.
