Subject: Very Hard to Start!!!! IP: Logged
Message: Okay well i just got my first Dakota on the road. Its a 98 2WD with the 3.9 and 216,000 miles. Great truck but as I was told when I bought it...it is very hard to start once in a while. Other than those times it will fire right up. When it does not want to start it will just crank over and over and chug every once in a while. When it finally starts it will smell like gas, run like crap for about 5 seconds, and blow a puff of smoke when it does start. Other than the truck never blows any smoke at all. Any suggestions?

Message: Dakotas are plagued by this problem. The dealers are clueless, and you will never solve this problem. Bottom line, Dakotas are gigantic pieces of sh!t. This is coming from a dakota owner. Dakotas are terrible trucks, they are slow compared to comparable trucks with similar sized motors, thay are always having to be repaired, and thay will pull this starting problem you described right when you need them to run because your ass is running late for work. My advice to you is to get out now. Sell that dodge as fast as you can and go out and by yourself a yota if you want something that will actually start and run right everytime. Dodge does not make quality product from what I have seen. My own 2001 Dakota has the same start-up problem as yours and it only has 25000 miles on it. I knew that the price I paid was to good to be true. So I am selling that piece of sh!t as fast as I can and cuttin my losses.

Message: I had a yota and just sold it. I like the Dakota, and I got it real cheap. The Dakota has more power than the yota and uses the same amount of gas even though it has 2 more cylinders. I can't believe this problem can't be fixed...something has to cause it.
