I have a 2003 Dakota 4x2 w/4.7L and auto trans. and am having problems with an intermittent flashing of all lights at once, where all lights, interior and exterior, to include headlamps, tail lights, marker and fog lights, blink off for a split second then come back on. If I am parked and I turn on the lights with the key out of the ignition, all the lights flash at a regular 5 second interval, and I can hear the parking lamp relay kick out whenever the lights flash. However, if the motor is running, the flashing is more intermittent, anywere from 2 to 30 seconds between flashes. Bumps, weather conditions, etc. make no difference. Also, if I have my windshield wipers on intermittent, the lights blink at the start of every wiper flip.
I checked every fuse and relay in both fuse boxes, and even took apart the dash to check out the headlamp and dimmer switch module, disconnecting and reseating every connector I could find, to no avail. Has anybody else had similar problems, and is it covered by warranty or a recall notice? Thanks...

i dont know if this is of any help, but dcx is investigating a similar prob on 01, 02 minivans, and the nhsta is considering forcing a recall, maybe you should take your truck in for a check.

I've got it narrowed down to the Central Timer Module. I've seen here and on other forums that many other Dakota and Durango owners have had similar symptoms with lights flashing or completely inoperative, intermittent wiper operation, automatic door locks not working, intermittent door chime, etc., with the problem being in the Central Timer Module. All these functions are controlled by the CTM (in fact the door chime is a small speaker mounted on the CTM board). It is in a plastic box with three connectors, located behind the driver's side kick panel under the dash. Not having a spare to try out, all I could do is inspect the cables, and remove and inspect the circuit board for any obvious damage (e.g. moisture or burned out components). Although the wiring harness runs close to the emergency brake pedal, I didn't see any signs of chafing or pinching.
Got pulled over by a state trooper on the way home because of the blinking headlights... Looks like I'm gonna have to visit the dealer, and soon, too.

Scott, I have a 03 R/T and had the same problem it is the CTM had dealer replace it no more flashing lights.

I took it to the dealer today, and they confirmed it. They said they have been changing a lot of them. I'm still under warranty (just barely, my truck's got ~34K miles on it). The dealer didn't have the module in stock (I guess they ran out), they have to order it.

I have the similar issue with a 2001 QC 4.7 4X4. Every once in a while I'll turn left and the hazards come on. The dealer said it was probably some switching unit locate in the steering wheel. Quoted me 100.00 Canadian. It does it so infrequently I'm not going to do anything until is happens more often.

I have recently had problems with the headlights and dashboard panel blinking off for a fraction of a second, intermittently, on our 2001 Durango. It looks like I'm 'flashing' other drivers! The Dodge dealership checked the fuses and replaced the lightswitch, but had no other solution. Problem NOT solved. They were going to check with 'the factory' to see if they had any ideas! I'm going to call them regarding checking the CTM and also point out that the 2003 Durango had a recall for what sounds like the same problem.

If you have a problem with just the indicators working crazy there is a module just for the indicators under the dash just to the left of the column. Thirty to forty dollars at the dealership I believe. It is called a Combination Flasher Unit

SS, I have a 02 and it was doing very same thing
yours is doing.. I took it to the stealership
twice while under warranty. Both times it would
not act up for them..
After the warranty ran out I looked into the
problem myself and I ended up replacing the
blinker unit under the dash. Cost was around
$28.00. It's very easy to replace yourself but
you do have to remove the plastic cover under the
steering wheel. Just a few screws.
Try replacing that first and don't take it to the
stealership. You'll get raped!

I've heard of several solutions to what could be your problem on here. One was a purple wire that would get pulled out of the steering columns with tilt steering. And the other was the CTM module. I have a buddy who's replaced it on a 93 Dak and on a slightly older RAM. You would think they'd have fixed that by now.

My 2008 Dodge Dakota will have times when all of the dash lights will flash on the tachometer will go to zero but this never affects the engine performance no stalling. It is purely electrical and a malfunction in the computer or the fuse power station. Does anyone have any suggestions for mew to try.

I have a 2003 Dodge Dakota, My headlights will go off and on / blinking also effecting all lights in the dash/ bight and then dim. I replaced the headlight switch and still have the same problem.

I have been having a similiar problem with my 2002 Dodge Dakota. When i turn on my windshield wipers, the headlights come on for a couple of seconds and then go back off. Any suggestions?

checked IOD fuses there good. I seen this has happened in
other dodge Dakota does any one know what it is, is it
something I can fix or have to take to dealer. Please help only
way of transportation
