Ok - I need to vent a little here and I'm sure many of you will agree. So I go into a Checker auto parts store today to pick up some rear brake drums. I get there and there are no men working. It was two women who were trying really hard to keep the fort down. Well, 5-6 customers are waiting in line, the phones are ringing nonstop, and these women were frantically trying their best.

I guess I just want to speak to a man when I go into an auto parts place, as they are more likely to speak the language and know what's going on and be able to know more about what the customer needs. I'm not sexist at all, just when it comes to automotive stores!

Does anybody agree or do I just sound like a pig (which I'm not)???

I dunno hoss. You may be alone there. There's a girl at the Autozone parts counter named Aleia that's not just a hottie. She's also got a Mustang that'll run 12's in the quarter. And her boyfriend didn't build it for her.

Some days, I'd rather talk to her, instead.

Alex

I have seen quite a few woman that where gear heads. I happen to work with one that knows more then most men do. It helps that she has a degree in automotive tech., Has her ASE Master Certification, and Her ASE Parts Certification. I will admitt most women that I have ran into would not know what end of the car the engine is in but it is not right to assume that they know nothing just because they do not have testicles. I could car less what their gender is as long as the know their car parts!!! P.S. I talk to about 65-150 people a day mostly men. Most of them do not know the first thing about their cars or how the operate. Most of them do not even know the name for the part that they want!

I have to agree but disagree. I have dealt with
both men and women at parts stores. I have met
some dumb ones of both genders, and some good
ones. At the local advance auto store there is a
girl by the name of dabbie, she is awsome for car
parts, i dont' knwo if she has a degree or not but
she knows her stuff. So who knows!!!jsut my 2 cents!!!

I went into a performance store around the corner from me for the first time the other day, it's one of those places that stock all that ricer stuff... anyway, I just wanted to see what they had & whether they carried autolite spark plugs because I haven't been able to find any without ordering them. Anyhow... there was one of those young guys with a pierced eyebrow who looked on the verge of giving me some attitude, smirked at my question and asked "what does HE want them for?" I looked at him for a minute and said "who?" Anyhow... he fell all over himself checking out my truck, but didn't seem to know squat about parts for it. I don't think I'll bother going back there... on the other hand, there's a truck performance shop on the outskirts of town where the (older) guy looks me in the eye, gives me great advice and we've had some good debates over the merits of various upgrades. The alignment shop where I got my ball joints done has a great rep for excellent work, but they would just as soon that I keep my mouth shut, give them my money, and get the héll out of their shop without asking them any stupid questions. So, sexisim isn't necessarily a given, but yeah, it definitely does exist in the automotive world. I'm loyal to the places that treat me with respect, and when my truck is paid for next year will be spending a lot more money in their shops. ...That's my view from the other side of the coin!

It doesn't matter to me whether the parts person is m/f, as long as the service is good and they know what they are talking about.

Up here in Canada, we have a store called Canadian Tire and their automotive 'specialty' store is called Parts Source. Went into Parts Source one time looking for the Autolite 3923s and Robertshaw t-stat, the parts guy seemed very disinterested in helping me out and didn't know that there was actually spark plugs besides Champions and Motomaster. For the t-stat, all he could refer me to was Stants. On the other hand, went into Parts Source again looking for plastic convulutes (the plastic guards that go around the spark plug wires), and she knew right away what they were and where it was located in the store.

Crappy Tire doesn't carry Autolites- already checked... it's great for wax & cleaning products though.

Crappy Tire has a great brand name selection, just as long as you're looking for Motomaster brand name parts.
