Subject: Dual Out Flowmaster IP: Logged
Message: Hi,
I am looking into a flowmaster dual out for my 2001 4.7. I called and they said they could only give me a complete cat-back system that was 3" single out. They have the muffler only that is dual out, but I need the whole sh-bang. He recommended a local muffler shop to do it. What's everyone else's experience with this system?
Also, I have looked at a lot of posts and it seesms the 40 series and the 50 series are about the same outside, but how about inside? I do a lot of highway driving at around 2200 rpms.
TIA

Message: I have the Flowmaster 3" single on my 4.7. I love it. It is a 50 series muffler. The 50 series is a 3 chamber muffler and the 40 is a 2 chamber. The 40 will be a little louder and there will be more interior resonance. I wanted duals also but I found that the 4.7 relies on backpressure and the best gains were coming from single 3" systems. The advantage of buying a cat back system is you get mandrel bends insted of normal crush bends that a muffler shop would do. Also, cat back systems are designed and tested to gain the most from your exhaust. I payed $197 from Summit for my system. Chesck out my web page to see more info on the installation. I hope this helps.

Message: Hey, thanks for the feedback. I am looking more for sounds and looks than the modest performance gains. (Of course I want too stay away from LOSING any power.) I want it to be a noticable deep low sound, a bit of a head-turner on the outside, but not too killer inside. I think I am leaning to the 50, unless someone says that the 40 with a dual out the back will keep the sound on the outside ;-)

Message: I installed the Flowmaster Force II on my 5.2 (thats the 3" single cat-back). I definitely feel the added power. It sounds nice. It has a low tone. You can tell its not stock, but if your wanting to rattle windows, its not the system for you. The Force II comes with the 50 series SUV muffler which is a three chambered muffler. Supposedly the regular 50 series delta flow is a little louder. The 40 series is a dual chambered muffler and should be even louder than that. The 40 series is about 4 inches shorter than the 50. As for having a muffler shop custom make your exhaust, I'd try to find a kit first. You can visually see the difference in the mandrel bends.

Message: I was thinking about duals also but instead I went with the 40 series with single 3" pipe. Personally, I don't think it's that loud. Yeah you can hear it inside the cab but if you listen to the radio or even have a conversation you won't hear it at all really. Talk radio covers it up if you believe that. I lost a little torque on the lower end but I also put headers on which increased the power more then stock so I win both ways.
Loudness, I don't think it's that loud and I'm conservitive.
