Message: I HAVE A FUNNY JEEP QUESTION. MY WIFE DRIVES A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER SPRT 6 CYL, 4.0L. ABOUT A YEAR AGO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID THAT THERE WAS A LARGE LEAK IN THE EVAPORATION SYSTEM, SO AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION I FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE THE EVAPORATION SYSTEM VACCUM PUMP. ABOUT 4 WEEKS AGO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN SAME PROBLEM, LARGE LEAK IN THE EVAPORATION SYSTEM. SO AGAIN I CHECK THE VACCUM PUMP AND ALL THE HOSES. ONE HOSE HAD A SMALL CRACK IN IT SO I REPLACED THE HOSE IT AND RESET THE BATTERY. YESTERDAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, SAME PROBLEM, LARGE LEAK IN THE EVAPORATION SYSTEM. TODAY WHEN MY WIFE GOT GAS THE LIGHT WENT OFF ABOUT 5 MIN AFTER FILLING THE TANK. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I THROUGH THAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT TO THE PCV VALVE BUT AFTER TODAY I AM NOT SURE. ANY HELP WULD BE GREAT.
AND I KNOW THAT IT IS NOT THE GAS CAP BEING LOOSE.
THANKS

Message: I still think it was the gas cap since it went off after she filled it up. Maybe she got it more snug this time.

Message: The reason for Jose's potty mouth is that he is 16 years old and he thinks it cool or kewl.
What will be really kewl is when Jose turns 40 and he asks me if I want a buggy when I enter WalMart.
Anyway, the gas cap could still be the problem even if it is tight. The cap has a check valve that lets are in and it can corrode and fail tripping the MIL.

Message: Search for gas cap on here you'll find alot of posts about that being an issue. In some cases it was not easy to identify/find a crack in the cap.
I agree with big un that it just might have been the cap. Those are not that expensive to replace, < $10.

Message: Could be your evap canister leaking. I have a ZJ and it is right in front of the left tire and I flex out on it and cracked where one of the hoses came into it. I have a new one but I just bi passed it since there was not place to really relocate it to.

Message: I have an 02 6 cyl 4.0 and right now, it's sitting at my mechanic for the same reason. The factory gas cap broke, so I bought a new (aftermarket)one and the stupid light still won't go off, this has been going on for about a year now, and I haven't been able to get it inspected since August. I feel your pain. We've even tried resetting the computer and had no luck.
