Message:
I have been doing some research on changing my tranny fluid and filter in my 99 5.2L Dak SLT. I read somewhere that I should also "adjust the bands" as this is part of the normal service procedures.

I have not yet looked into doing this job, but is it something that I could do in my garage, or is this procedure something best left to the stealership? If I can do this myself, any hints on this job would be appreciated (and parts needed).

Thanks,

ZoSo

You can do it on the ground but it is a pain. YOu have to get underneath and take out all of the little bolts that hold on the trany pan. Then take it off slowlly so yo don't get covered in tranny fluid. peel off the old gasket and cleam the pan and the bittom of the tranney. pull out the old filter. pour some new tranny fluid in the new filter, and install it. Then bult the pan back up, you will need to find out the torque specs for those little bolts. Fill up the tranney with atf fluid.

Band adjustment is covered elsewhere on this site. One bolt is insid the tranny, one outside.

Use car ramps, that makes it easy to get at at home.

Best get a service manual for your truck, if you don't
have one already. You will need an inch pound
(NOT FOOT POUND!!!)torque wrench for one.

The procedure is in the Dodge service manual & Haynes
service manual.

You'll also need NAPA tool number NB810 socket, for the front band adjustment. About $7.

Put a drain plug on that pan as long as you're taking it off. $5 kit at any parts store.

You could also use a hand pump and run a hose down the fill tube too, I've done that.
