I found a 93 4x4 V8 extended cab. Excellent body and paint, engine runs very well, transmission shifts smoothly and consistently. 158K miles.

Observations
1. The transfer case looks very clean, compared to the transmission. There is a lot of new gasket goop at the seams. There is no documentation, so I presume the transfer system has had some work.

2. The tach doesn't work.

3. The engine is carbed. It sometimes won't continue to run at idle. I thought that maybe the jets are dirty or the idle's just set too low.
When its running, it seems *very* strong.

4. No oil leaks. Just a bit of tranny fluid on the pan, perhaps just from loose pan bolts.

Questions
1. How does $4500 sound?

2. It seems impossible for a chrysler transmission to last 158K miles. I figure that $4500 + $1500 (future trans work) = $6000. Or, I could buy a 100K mile 2wd V6 truck for $6000. And, I'd probably still have a tranny problem later.

Opinions?

My wife has a 93 Dak 4x4 V8. We just recently replaced the transmission at 85K miles. we opted for a factory rebuilt rather than having the old one fixed because I have had bad experiences with local shops trying to fix my transmissions. It ended up costing us $1800 with labor. I have seen a lot of same year 4x4 V8 Daks with 90K miles going for around $9k. Where I live they seem to be holding thier value pretty good. The 2WD does not seem to hold its value as well. If it were me, I would rather replace a transmission and get a V8 than get stuck with a V6. We have had this truck since it was new and it has always been very reliable for us. This was the first major repair we had to do on it. I hope my 01 Dak gives me as little trouble as the 93.
