New SRT-8s?? (May 13 2005, 06 AM)

redriderbob of Dodgeforum.com reports that SRT is developing two new vehicles for their line. The Dakota and Durango will be the two to received the high performance treatment. The Dodge Dakota SRT-8 will feature the 6.1L HEMI V-8 featuring 425 horsepower and 420 ft-lbs of torque, straight from the Charger, 300C, and Magnum SRT-8 models. The new truck will feature 20" rims, street tuned, and lowered suspension, and a 5-speed automatic transmission. There will be a functional ram air induction hood, as well as two racing bucket seats of leather.

The SRT Durango will have 20" rims, SRT tuned suspension, an automatic transmission, leather buckets in the first two rows of seats, as well as a high rear gearing, and similar to that of the Ram SRT-10's 4.56 gears.

High rear gearing ? 4.56 is a low ratio; which is what you'd expect in a performance vehicle. High #s are low gears; low #s are higher gears - there seems to be a lot of confusion on this with some of you guys !

Interesting, I will believe it when I see it. Dodge themselves have said that the Hemi will not fit in the new Dakota.

i hope also that it looks nothing like the asthetically offending 05 dakota. that durango truck concept did look pretty sweet, hopefully the bean counters come up with enough change to make it happen

Are they ever going to make a hemi vehicle with a stick shift? This seems to be a concept that dodge just can't figure out. For example, why won't they come out with a two door sports car, rear wheel drive with a v8 and a manual transmission. This to me seems like the perfect muscle car combination, but dodge, just won't build it. They keep beating around the bush with the expensive viper, and the overpriced crossfire srt-6, that has a s/c 6-cylinder, which I'm sure is a great motor, but it's just not the same as a big rumbling v8.

I am teeting along the dakota/ram line. I am looking at getting a new truck next year. I'm evaluating what my needs are. If i keep my existing dakota, i may buy another one. If i don't keep it then i'll be getting a ram. Why? quad cab and big bed. I would really be interested in a hemi dakota quad cab with 6' bed.

The dakota Quad cab is the best looking truck in the line!! At least before 05. I don't really like the styling of the next generation.
