ever since I put that 70mm F/B Tb, and Intake and HO cams on my motor, it seems that my Dak hates 87, and loves 93.

IT would ping and spark knock and carry on.

what do these mods do to cause this?

is the Fuel Burning too hot?

I dunno.

any ideas?

It doesn't seem like those mods should cause that. I have a ported 68 mm, HO cams, plus extra ignition advance and it still runs fine on 87, only need premium for towing. Did you also add larger tires which would affect final gearing ? Carrying lots of weight ?

A lean condition will cause pinging.

Also, hot spots in the cylinder head cooling track will cause that, but it has to be pretty sever. Have you bled your coolant system well?

I used to haul alot of Multch and Brush, and wood for my brother's Landscaping buisness, but now we just use the cummins, so really now, my Dak is just my daily driver.

the 4.7L are strong motors right?

what are the chances of me Burning valves, and burning oil?

I probably run it hard maybe twice a week, to clean the carbon out, is that too much?

my guess would be lean condition as well. If it is running lean the chances of burning valves is pretty good. Running on is caused by hot spots in the combustion chamber but if the fuel pump and injectors are shut off it shouldn't be able to carry on, however, if the run-on is brief, it may just be sucking the available fuel out of the rail - still indicating a hot spot - which indicates lean condition.

I never thought of this, but the clicking noise that I hear when I hit the gas might be my Header's Leaking, and it might be time for me to change te gaskets.

what fun, the headers were hard enough putting them on in the first place.

I just had a Tune Up at my dealer ship, they cleaned the Fuel injection system out, they put new plugs in, they serviced the 4WD yadda, Yadda.

it doesn't spark knock anymore.

I still run it on 93 + STP Gas Treatment for now

I had a clicking sound, what they said I needed was a new exhaust manifold. After that, the clicking was gone. It sounded like it was the headers and I was getting excited thinking I had an excuse to get new ones but nooo.

00_Green_Dak - WTF are you talking about, headers replace exhaust manifolds; you run one or the other, not both.

DakMan - Yeah, running lean could cause that, caused by clogged injectors and maybe a leaking exhaust. If it still happens on 87, you should take care of the exhaust leak. I believe the motor will compensate for the mods you listed in the first post if everything else is up to snuff.
