Subject: Anyone use timbrens? IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone use timbrens on their Dakota? Do you find them helpful? Does it change the ride when empty? Do you recommend any other type of helper to the suspension?
I was thinking of installing a set on my Dakota. It is not that I load her to the max daily, but I do find myself packing her up with several yards of mulch, firewood and lumber throughout the year. I am also cosidering a slide in camper for the bed.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Message: I put Timbrens on a motorhome. The truck rides OK when loaded and on them, but the ride transition between no-Timbren and the Timbrens against the axle is harsh. As long as your clearance and loading patterns involve either light or fully-loaded them full time, with hardly any time in-between, I'd say consider them. Otherwise, search these forums for Loadmaster (I think that's what it's called--a leaf-spring helper gizmo.

Message: If you are thinking of getting timbrens your leaf springs are probably already sagging. Sagging springs and new timbrens will make for a harsh ride. A few years ago I had my leaf springs re-bent, added an additional leaf and installed the timbrens. I love this set up. If you have this done the timbrens only contact the axle with about 350# in the back or when you hit a big bump/hole. Once I had a full ton of landscaping block in the back and it drove fine, although I don't like the idea of that much force on the axle/bearings/etc. of a dak. I would recomend this setup but I have not tried any of the others.

Message: Thanks for the feedback! Leaf springs are not sagging. Have actually treated the truck well. I just know what the future brings and am trying to plan ahead. I spoke to customer service today and they really stood behind their product. They said if I felt the ride was too harsh, they could work with me to modify the set up for free. That is how confident they felt. Timbrens for my truck have a 3000lb capacity. I would not believe I could carry that much in the size bed. I do know that many install the timbrens on their trucks when carring a camper. I searched the forum for the Road master suspension. Very positive feedback but many have stated they do not place a great deal of weight on them. More performance I guess. Would love to hear more feedback from those that use them as well as more timbren users.

Message: Where were you going to get them and how much? I have been looking for something like that too. I have a full Weatherguard rack on my truck and it could use some help when loaded with 16' Trex. Thanks.

Message: I have another question. timbren says that it will increase your capacity to 3k#, can the rest of the dak handle that? I don't think the timbrens can fail, so what is/are the part/parts that will fail next if overloaded? any ideas what the next weakest links are and what they can handle?
Thanks
Ryan

Message: When I called Timbren, they stated that they are tested to hold a capacity of 3000 lbs. They do recommend that you stay within the GMVW limit. I have just found that when I do put a substancial load in it, my headlights are "star searching" If I was to place a truck camper in the bed, I would be pushing that "max factor". I would be very hesitant to place 3,000 lbs. in my truck. I have just heard positive things from those carrying campers and many overload their trucks. I had thought of air bags but they seem very expensive. As far as the next weekest link, I hope I never have to find out. If I was to overload daily, I think I would upgrade.
I ordered my timbrens from a www.truckspring.com
They were $154.95 and had free shipping. Timbren gave me this link and I had also gotten it from a Google search. Other also had it for the same price. A local shop by me sells them for $181.95. Did not have it in stock and would have to wait just as long, you do the math.
I was concerned about the stiff ride I mentioned under partial loads and Timbren said they would work with me on a modified set up I felt they were not what I wanted. They seem very easy to install and figure I can also remove them if they seem too stiff. Mine are just 2 bolts that replace the rubber bed stop over the axle.
