Message: If you opt for two wheel drive get limited slip. Get the 4.7,a guy at work is dumping his 04 3.7 quad 4x4,15mpg. My 03 4.7 quad 4x4 gets that. Does it snow where you live, if yes then get the 4x4. Get the 3.92 gears. Don`t overpay,
especially with todays gas prices. Go here and price out your truck(you should be able to buy for at least 2k less than it says);

Can`t answer the suspension question, someone else should. Good luck!

Message: The question is, do you really need 4x4? If you live in FL, no, you don't. Don't waste the money on something you'll never need. OTOH, if you live in CO, MN, NY, etc, it's a very handy option to have. Not a necessity, but very handy.
As for the ride, it's a little bit stiffer than 2x4, but not enough to really notice. Engineers have spent a lot of effort making the 4x4 "Mom Friendly", so to speak. My 2001 handles extremly well, and is very comfortable to drive and ride in for hours at a time.
If you live where is snows significantly, get 4x4. If not, don't waste your money.

Message: I bought an 05 Dak QC 4x4 in March, and love it. I upgraded from a 98 Dak CC 4x4, and there really is no comparison of the ride between the 2. The 05 is much smoother, quieter and roomier than the 98 (QC vs CC though).
My wife drives an 04 Santa Fe 4x4, and I'm convinced that the Dak rides nicer than her Santa Fe, but that might be my bias coming thru.. *grin*

Message: I went from an '02 2wd Quad Sport Plus to an '05 2wd
Laramie. The new one is much quieter, but rides
rougher than my '02 did with Hotchkis rear leafs and Air
Lift (which made it roughter than stock).
The '05 doesn't do the "bed shake" dance over every
pot hole and RR track crossing like my '02 did and does
almost everything better than my '02. The new coil over
front end rides better but the rear leafs are super stiff
'cause of the new upped tow and load ratings and
really pounds on rough pavement. It is a truck after
all....
As far as 2wd vs. 4wd, I'll take the 2wd every time. If the
farthest off road you get is the boat landing (like me),
buy the 2wd with limited slip and get a set of Blizzaks
for winter if needed. My 2/3 lowered '02 with limited
slip, 250 lbs of sand in the bed, and a set of Blizzaks
went through more show than my old '95 Jeep Grand
Cherokee with AWD and all-season tires ever did.
Why $3,000 more for a 4x4 if you don't need one?
My 2¢,
Lemmers
