Message: More info, like what was the original problem? what did you replace? Alot of things could cause this. Need to know what youve done and why.

Message: Originally we had to rebuild the tranny, the engine ran very sound before we dropped the rebuilt in. after the trans. job was finished we have now changed the starter 2 times, the fuel pump, the distributer & timing gear &cap, shortly after fixing all that it blew a head gasket, so we replaced head gaskets, intake gaskets, bolts, heads planed, valves ground, etc (all that comes with the job) after finishing that we found that the timing was still very off and have messed with the timing and distributor for days, it is backfiring out of both the intake and exhaust, we have a loss of power, and it will not idle in gear (stalls out). the check engine light lit up and after checking the code it said "injector output curcuit not responding" we are not getting good spark from the plugs either so we replaced the computer, the backfire isn't as violent now but still very present and didn;t seem to do much good. from what i've heard this whole concept of one thing after another going on this year dakota seems common to owners and we've already put over 1100 in work into a 92', don;t know weather to keep dumping money and parts into it when nothing changes

Message: The spark timing is controled by the computer and the sensor on the bellhousing. The distributor controls the injectors sync. I copied this from a post on the v6 page. Check out the v6 page there is a lot more info on all that you have done. But it sounds like this is your problem. If this doesn't correct your problem it will at least eliminate it from the list .
Turn the engine over untill the TDC mark is lined
up with the 0 on the tab and the rotor is pointing
to the #1 wire on the cap.
Now look straight down over the top of the rotor
and you will see the button center and the
line on the pickup plat marked cyl
center the rotor over the line and you will be
right near 0 turning the dist counterclockwise
will move towards + side line the edge of the
rotor button with the line and you will be around
+2 to 3 and you will notice the diff in how your
truck runs.
when rotating the motor only go clockwise do not
back up if you over shoot. and push lightly
counterclockwise on the rotor to remove any play
with your finger than set.
The dist bolt is 1/2 inch and a pain to get to
I hope this helps. Let me know
