Subject: Fog light issues IP: Logged
Message: How do you know if your fuses under the hood are bad or not. I have a 99 dakota 5.2 and 5 speed. Both the fog lights aren't working. I assume that like on headlights if one is bad the other will work fine. Both fog lights don't work and the switch on my dash doesn't light up; like it is supposed to when I pull on it to engage the fog lights. Anyone here have a similar problem?

Message: Dont have the same problem, but ive blown many fuses in my Dakota while customizing my horn. To check if the fuse is blown, find the correspnding picture on the fuse box, and check to see that the small wire connecting the two metal pieces together are still intact.

Message: I thought I had posted a response yesterday, apparently not.
You can buy a fuse tester or use a multimemter, or as alec suggest, if you pull the fuse and look at it, you'll see if it's blown or not.
I picked up a fuse kit from pepboys about 5-6 years ago for $10, it contained fuses from (I think) 3.5A - 40A and included a tester. It's nice because you don't have to actually pull the fuse to check it. And it's easier to use than a multimeter.
I had some bad wiring on my fog lights (mine are after market). I replaced the wiring, haven't blown a bulb yet and was blowing them about every other use (don't use fog lights much).
Not sure why this is the case, but most people i know that leave their fog lights on all the time seem to blow blubs more often than people who turn their off and don't rely on the relay to turn off the fog lights when switching to high beams.

Message: Buy a test light. About 2 bucks. Check the fuse without removing it.

Message: AND i thought i posted yesterday also, and i said get yourself a new headlight switch....
I have the exact truck as you do and had the same problem with the fogs not working, it was a faulty switch. Replace your switch and things will only get better!!!:)
