Subject: where is the metering device for the a/c
IP: Logged

Message:
Today I replaced the evaporator on my dakoda and did not notice any metering device between the high side and evaporater.

I pulled the system down, but didn't add the refriderant because I'm unsure about the metering device.

Is it designed into the evaporator? I want to be sure of this because if something happens I don't have the equipment to recover the charge and don't want to waist $50.00 worth of refrigerant.

BTW, how much oil does the Saden compressor hold. I removed it and tried to drain it,but no oil came out. I put about 6 ounces and reinstalled it. Is that enough or should I add more. thanks.

The orifice tube will be in the liquid line or possible in the condenser outlet tube (depending on model year).

Oil charge varies from 180-240cc depending on the year as well. The amount you put in may be a little much. Did you flush the system or change the accumulator?

I'm convinced it must be built into the evaporater. Didn't change the accumlator, since it wasn't a compressor failure, just pulled a long vacumm.

The expansion valve, which meters the refrigerant, always used to be inline between the evaporator and the underhood lines. It's a metal silver-colored square block that the lines attach to, with a tiny metal tube on one side, along with the low-pressure cutoff switch.
