Subject: Remote oil filter for 4.7L IP: Logged
Message: On my former truck I had a remote oil filter set up made by trans-dapt. (It was not a Dakota). Now I have this 04 QC and wish to move the oil filter away from the block to make filter changes easier. I just do not seem to find a kit that fits. I did a search and saw a reference to Amsoil, but there site does not list a direct fit for a Dakota 4.7L V8.
HELP!!

Message: I remember a few years ago a thread about someone who had used the AMSOIL remote kit on a Ram w/4.7L and someone else on a Jeep Grand Cherokee w/4.7L. Good luck

Message: According to the Fram catalog, the 5.9 (which I have) and the 4.7 use the same oil filter, PH-16. The Ford small blocks use a PH-8. The only differance between the PH-8 and the PH-16 is the length. A Ford filter will easily fit a dodge engine - but it may not fit the chassis.
So, you can use a block adaptor for a ford on your dodge engine. I strongly suggest you use the Canton billet adaptor, and AN lines and fittings. The cast adaptors and cheap lines from Trans-dapt will soon leak. Guess how I know that?

Message: Oh, and another thing. I believe - but could be wrong - that the amsoil kit is a bypass filter, not a remote filter mount. Big differance. Check on that carefully before purchasing.

Message: What's a by pass filter? Where to I find that billet adapter? I know about the trans-dapt leaks too.
Thanks.

Message: Go to the Amsoil web site and read about the bypass filter. It's used in addition to the stock filter. Only some of the oil passes through it, not all.
Billit adaptors and fittings are available from a lot of suppliers. Summit, Jegs, etc. The best supplier I know is Mike Forte, in MA. He runs a small shop with good prices and excellent personal service. www.fortesparts.com
