Subject: check engine light IP: Logged
Message: I accidently tried to start my truck while the engine was running.(yeah, it happens) The check engine light came on immediately and has not turned off. The truck has been fine for the next two days.Is there a way to reset the light?

Message: That is amazing, I was going to ask the same question because I screwed up the firing order while putting new plugs and wires in, but then fixed it right away. I believe you just have to disconnect the battery, however, I was going to ask first!

Message: Well check the code and figure out WHY the light is on...
If you have a digital odometer, turn the key on, off, on, off, on and leave it on the third time (engine OFF!). Any codes will appear in the odometer in place of the current milage. Write these down and search for a code list to find out what it is.
If you do not have a digital odo, I don't know what else to do but stop at your local Auto-Zone and have them plug it in for you, its free and they'll tell you what the code means too.

when you dixconnect the neg terminal,
Then turn the key to start once.
NO, not to see if it will start,
it resets the whatever they are that stores things, capacitors, or something like that.
Really, try it.
