Message: That's a tough decision there.
First of all. those 3.0 MITSUB!TCHI engines were NOT forgiving at all! Kind of JUNK I thought.
If you are worried about it, and it runs ok otherwise. I'd change the belt. It could be dry rotted.
A belt change is a fraction of a belt change and valves into the pistons! if it's an interference engine, which I think ALL them Mitsu's were.
Just before we traded our 1998 Chrysler Cirrus mitsu 2.5 V6 in, I changed the timing belts.
No chances you know. And I didn't PLAN on trading it in. Was merely at the dodge dealership for something on my Dakota (maintenance) and them snakey Salesman got my WIFE looking at the Dodge Caravan!!!
Those sucka's are slick!
Oh. Our 2004 Dodge grand caravan has a 3.8 PUSHROD V6 made by Dodge.
Weird. MORE dependable though, I am sure.

Message: This 3.0L is the same engine they run double turbos on > 355 HP output and they held up great from all info I have found > There weakest point was valve seals > This engine is also used on things like forklifts run on propane > and this engine is a non interferance engine but the revised additions were interferance > I read a bunch on this engine and everything I found so far relates to long life > also read tons a forums and there was a lot that had well over 200,000 and running strong > not trying to counterdict you at all > Just saying what I have found so far > mayne I'm reading all the wrong places > Dry rot was one of my concerns for sure > But another is that what I'm reading , if i'm getting it correct is the belt change on this engine does not come cheap and I can no longer do this type of work > I've been reading 600 bucks for this job > Just seams like a lot to me
