Subject: Engine Code--No Camshaft Signal IP: Logged
Message: Getting P 0340--"No camshaft signal detected during engine cranking."
Truck still starts and runs great--engine revs nicely, no hard idling or anything of the sort. Was doing about 75 on freeway in the rain when it came on.
Engine light turned off after about 2 starts accompanied by significant driving, but code still shows up on odometer.
I am guessing the sensor is out? Could it have been from the rain? Or should I try and reset the PCM and see if the code comes up again?
Where is the sensor located? I want to replace it myself without taking it to the crooked dealership. I know it is on top of the engine block but that's about it.
Also, will I need to buy a new gasket when replacing the sensor?
Thanks!

Message: if it's running ok i'd just reset the pcm and see if it happens again.

Message: Yeah, I will try that.
The thing that is puzzling to me is that the code is still showing up even though the light has turned off. This truck has only thrown one other code at me, and it seems like the MIL stayed on until I had fixed the problem and the code dissapeared.
Any thoughts?

Message: that would leave me to believe there was really no problem. as i like to say the system must have "hiccupped". just a temporary malfunction. the MIL light would go off since the pcm doesn't see the problem anymore but, the code is stored in memory until the pcm is reset.

Message: yeah, what daddio said, it'll keep it in memory, until something like 50 turns of the key on/off, then it'll disappear... thats just incase the techs need to probe memory if the truck fails to run at all, it'll at least give em a basis for where to start repairs and diagnosis. if the light is off, I wouldn't worry about it.
