he was driving along, it had just stopped raining (started and stopped a few times after we were all standing around waiting for the police and stuff) anyway, this lady was in the on coming lane and lost control and hit him in the side. he saw her coming and tried to get out of her way but she still hit him in the side, pushing him over this little brick wall and into a ditch. she was going about 30 and he was going about 40. brick wall broke the whole rear axel off of the truck except for 1 shackle on the passenger side leaf. drive shaft (as you can see) came out, drivers side leaf (can see this also) broke through the bed! sux 'cause he really loved that truck, but he traded in a jeep and a jimmy he still owed on to get it, so he was crazy neg... his payments were over $500/mo sux he doesn't have that truck anymore, but with those payments, maybe it was a God send?

Yeah, thanks. I know how the real world works according to insurance companies. They operate within their own reality sometimes.
But doing a quick edmunds.com evaluation on the wrecked truck it looks like the insurance company is lowballing the poor serviceman (looks like a Marine, Semper FI!) to their advantage.
Figuring 18K miles per year (probably high) and not knowing any options beyond what is visible here is what the Edmunds valuation for the truck turns up:
Year: 2003 / 2004
Miles: 36,000 / 18,000
Trade: 17,705 / 18,375
Private: 19,187 / 20,159
Dealer: 21829 / 23,220
It looks to me the truck should be repaired for far less money than what these figures indcate the value to be.

Sounds like no one was hurt - it could have been much worse. Metal can be fixed or replaced..
What the hell is a Sgt doing with a nice truck like that? Shesh, I couldn't afford toys like that back in the day.. I was stuck driving a beat up old rusty 70 Nova. :)

ouch. I can sympathize.
I traded in a Jeep that I still owed $6k on to get my Dak. Payments are $500/month.
The only thing I got going for me is Gap Insurance. If something happens and the Ins.Co. totals the truck, the Gap Insurance is supposed to cover whatever is left on the loan.
Then again, I'd rather not lose the Dak as I don't think I could convince the missus to let me buy another.
