Help Can I use Dexron III in my Wifes Toyota Corolla when it calls for Dexron II or Toyota type T? I can not find any Dexron II and the Tranny was real low. I hope I did not mess it up. Its now shifting a lot better...

I am not 100% sure on this, but I seem to remember when I had an auto, that I could used a higher number. I just couldn't go any lower. For instance Dexron III would be ok for a tranny requiring Dexron II, but not vice-versa. Maybe someone can confirm this, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I think you are right Manuel...I would not worry about it...Dex III beats running out for sure anyway.

Jeff, I looked it up, your Dex III is better than Dex II, so you did just fine, not to worry.

Thanks every one... I almost had stupid jiffy lube guys do their replacment on the tranny fluid, but they could not get the machine hooked up... what jokers... This time has to be by far the worst "Signature Service" I have very had.
They did not even try to sell me a new air filter which it did need. I picked on up a wal-wart for $9.00
I would do it myself and I do on the Dakota, but you need to be like 3 inched wide to fit under the Corolla... I need jack stands... $32 for 4 quarts of oil and an oil filter.....

and just so you know, same goes for other stuff like brake fluid... dot 4 is a step above dot 3... so even if it calls for 3, you can use 4, but don't use 2 if it calls for 3... ok, i'll stop rambling...

Thanks again every one I confirmed this with the Toyota Dealer. You can use a higher number where it calls for a lower number...

Also this may just be a perceived improvement, bout would low fluid in the tranny like almost none at all cause it to not get up to speed a quickly almost like the engine was loosing power? After I put the ATF in it seems to go faster more quickly. I mean I thought there was something seriously wrong with the engine.. you would floor it and be going like 30 or 40.. Now I’m back to 70+ when flooring it…

I checked it and it was a little low like a few weeks ago... Either those fools at Jiffy lube drained most of it out tring to get their machine hooked upto it, or it burned up comming down pikes peak in Second gear (My father in law driving)... I went down Pikes peak in 2nd with my Dakota and my check engine light came on. I should have stuck with 3rd.. uggg two people from Nevada were in front of me riding their brakes the whole way.

Yes!!!!!!!!!! DextronIII is backwards compatable with all fluids that proceded it. Dextron III exceeds the requirements for dextron II. You will be just fine with Dextron III. Take care of that Corolla and it will run fore ever.

Dot 4 is better than 3 but you better not add Dot 5 to a system that has not been sterilized .

Andy, go with whatever the book calls for. if it says DexII, then DexII it is.

If you go by the book, that Accord will go 300,000 miles at least.

Honda's have some of the strictest maintenance protocols, If you follow 'em you wont regret it.

We don't use dexron transmission fluids in mopars; almost all you really need to know about them here. If you were a quart low on oil in your motor and all you had was that, you could get by with it; but don't put it in a Dakota tranny. Also suitable to spray on the underside of your mopar to prevent rust, won't hurt rubber parts.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

RE: HELP! Dextron III versus Toyota ATF WS

Message:
I wonder if I can use Toyota ATF WS fluid to replace transmission fluid for my Sienna Van 2003 LE instead of Dextron II or III. On the dip stick it lists Dextron II or III.

I greatly appreciate your inputs.

Thanks
