Subject: Carrier Bearings in a Ram
IP: Logged

Message:
Hi Everybody. I a question about a '96 Ram, but I like this board, and I get a good amount of info off here, and since this truck is Scooter's 'big brother', I thought I could ask you guys.

The truck is a '96 2wd 1500, with limited slip. It has 150k on it. Last week, I noticed it didn't sound right in the rear end. It ran fine, forward/reverse and turning/stopping, etc. My Dad put it up, in gear, and could hear a kind of 'whiney grumble.' It is fairly loud.

The shop says it is 'carrier' bearings. What are they, and does anyone have a ballpark figure on what the job entails and costs? I know things have to be pulled apart and Dad said might as well replace everything. What would 'everything' be?

Thanks guys...
