Subject: Best shocks for driveability IP: Logged
Message: I have a 95 Dakota Sport with a v6 (soon to be v8) and need new shocks. This is a regular cab, short box truck. I very rarely tow or carry heavy loads. I want very good control and good comfort. What is the best shock for my application?
I have been looking at Monroe Reflex shocks, but they don't seem to have them for my year Dakota. Does anyone know the difference between shocks for a 1995 and shocks for say a 2000 Dakota?
thanks

Message: I once had a '92 RC 2wd with Monroe gas shocks; I don't recall the model name, however. I have Edelbrock IAS on my current '01 RC. 1991-1996 Dakotas are referred to a "Generation II", and 1997-2004 "Generation III" on most Dak web sites, although Diamler-Chrysler considers 1987-1996 as "Generation I". You should still be able to find several shocks for a '95. Check out ads from vendors in Truckin' or Sport Truck magazines. Lots of GenII info is on www.dakotausa.com as well.

Message: I like the feel and ride of the KYB Monomax. I also have a reg cab 4X2, although with a V-8. Pop a rear sway bar on her and you'd almost think it was a sports car! He he.

Message: I have the Reflex on my QC 4x4 and I think that they are a little stiff. They definitely help with handling, but it reduces ride comfort considerably. If I were to do it again, I would just get the sensatracs.

Message: I put Reflex shocks on my 03 QC 2wd and I haven't found anything bad about the shocks. The truck rides like another vehicle with the Reflexes, smoother in bumps, tighter cornering, reduced wind sway, all good. The only thing they didn't cure was the obnoxious bouncing on the expansion joints of cement freeways.

Message: I`ve had bilsteins, kyb, tokiko, etc.
They are excellent performers but, they are a little bit on the harsh side when the road is less than good.
For the last 3 years, i`m using Edelbroock`s IAS.
They are hard on corners and brakeing, and nice`n soft soft over the bumps. The best i ever had.

Message: The IAS shocks are great. They take away many of the typical pickup truck characteristics: rear end hop over bumpy fast corners; "washboard" concrete interstates; pitch and roll into corners. They really do transform the truck, making it fun to drive.

Message: Thanks for all of the responses guys. Edelbrock is not offering the IAS shocks for my 95 Dakota. Does anyone know how the shocks are different between Generation II & III Dakotas?
Perhaps I could swap some components on my 95...
