Subject: need help choosing tonneau !!! IP: Logged
Message: Iv been fumbling over the decision of what tonneau to buy for my 98. I bought the truck last fall with a topper and figured id take it off and give it a nice sleeak summer look. Id liek to get a nice tonneau that looks good and keeps the rain out at the same time. Iv takin a likin to the roll up tonneaus such as the Extand Rt but i dont know that i should throw $300 into a tonneau that im gonna just store away for the winter.
If i were to spend $300 dollars on a tonneau i was thiking of either getting the extang rt or the lund genises roll up.
Could anyone give me any insite on which one to go with or any other?
*** please help; i cant sleep ***

Message: I've had my Torza Tonneau for almost two years now. Still looks as good as the day I got it. It is a soft cover but folds up with a metal frame so it's keeps it's good form. It allows you to fold it twice into a storage position, requires no modification to the truck, and installs/comes off in less than a minute. Oh, and it provides a good seal against water too.
Anyway, it's worth considering. I have a pic of it on my site..

Message: I've got an Extang full tilt. It seals clean and is holding up great, year round, snow, rain, birds whatever. You can roll it up or just open it like a trunk or take the whole thing off in a minute. The best most versitle tonneau I've ever had.

Message: I bought the cheapest Extang vinyl-over-frame snap down style tonneau in early 2001. It takes about an hour to install initially, and a few minues to snap the cover on when in use. If you plan to use it in the winter, put it on during a warm day, because you'll NEVER get it on during near freezing temperature -it shrinks too much. The snaps have become a little stubborn with age, a drop of oil or grease in each helps. The edges of the vinyl have curled a bit and become 'wavey' around the snaps from shrinkage. Overall the cover is still in decent shape and I feel it was a good value, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Message: I've had the Extang Tuff Tonneau III since March of 2003 on my 03 CC SXT. No leaks; no problems; still looks good. It can be a little tough to get stretched on in really cold weather, but nothing that can't be overcome.

Message: The extang is something that can't be overcome. John K is right- if you take it off in the winter, it will be off untill spring. I have the luxury of a heated garage and a hair drier and it was still a bitch. If you are looking for a soft tonneau for any cold weather use, at least get one with stationary snaps, DON'T get the design extang uses where the side snaps slide on a rail, because they won't help you stretch the cover at all.

Message: Alright guys.
THis is what iv finally come down to. Either the Extang Tuff tonneau 3-$200 or the Extang rt -$300. DO ispend te Extra hundred for the rolling capability or just go with cheaper simplicity. Keep in mind again that i will most likely have my hard topper on during the winter.
WHich one? The decision is close

Message: I have the tuff tonno 3. Gives the truck a nice look and keeps everything dry. I use it year round. Do take it off for periods in the summer while doing work around the home. Only complaint is the amount it shrinks in the cold but sounds like that is not a problem for you. I have had it open in the winter a few times and am able to work it closed with a great deal of muscle at the start and the end. I use a pair of plyers with a rag around the teeth to get extra grip. Brother has the snaps and likes mine better. Have had an open truck for MANY years and this is one of the best investments I have bought for a truck. Good luck on your decission.

Message: I have the Access roll up cover. I was kinda worried about picking it up, alothough I did and it was the best cover that I've seen to date. DON'T get a cover with snaps. They don't stay on in the winter. I have used mine alot, and it takes me a minute to roll it down, where I've seen people take 10 MINUTES to do snaps. Everyone that I know that has seen me use it LOVES IT. I am so glad that I didn't get a hard cover, or one that used only snaps or velcro to solely hold on the cover. The cover is also completely flat, no bars that stick up in the middle of the bed. I live in michigan and it was flawless in the winter. I would by another one in a heart beat.
