I have a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab 4X4 with a 5.9L. My truck has a strange shifting pattern. When pulling away from a stop sign, it shifts, or kinda misses on 2nd, has a kind of hesitation in the shift. I have heard there are 2nd gears, one with the torque converter normal, one with it locked?? not sure really, but has anyone else had thier truck shift funny from 1st to 2nd. It does not do it if you drive really light or punch it, just in everyday type of driving. Doge says they see no problems ( of course )....I am hoping my tranny is not going out, what do you guys think??? Any other similiar problems??

Mike

OMG yes!!! Thats the most annoying thing about my truck. The 1st 2nd shift is just like u described, especially when its cold. I had it flushed with all new fluid but that didnt fix anything. Let me know any updates because i dont wanna replace mine either.

True, mine happens when it's cold mainly also, but also when it's warm. It kind of like slips when taking off, but mainly on the second gear shift? Is that you problem also. There are software update that Dodge can put into you truck, but that didn't fix mine.

About 02-03 the 4.7 Dakotas have a trans with two second gears, depending on driving conditions it uses either gear. The convertor does not lock-up in second gear only third and OD
