Message: i got a black 98 cc. the hood and roof is faded and theres orange peel in a couple other places. i was thinking about gettin some dents out and getting the whole thing repainted. but i cant afford a $2000 paint job. im not worried about little mistakes like maybe a tiny bit of paint on the window trim or other stuff u have to really look at to see it. im planning on painting the door handles and mirrors myself later so if they get paint on them, i wont care. im mainly worried about there being a big difference in the color but it is only black, also how well they paint around the decals and how well they remove dents. wut if i mask off the decals and the other detailed stuff???

Message: Just take a spray can and empty it on the hood blindfolded. It will be better and cheaper than Maaco.

Message: take it from me if yo udont pain the whole truck you will see 2 different color black. had a 89 black mustang. had the whole passenger side and hood painted. even with all the care I gave the paint you could tell real easy the old paint and the new. your truck may look black but its faded to a certain degree.
also remember you get what yo upay for. you go with maaco and might get a worse job than yo ualready have. have you thought about rubbing compund or is it too far gone? might get someone to buff it if the fade isnt that bad. might be just your clearcoat and not the paint its self.

Message: no the paint is definitly done. mainly on the hood and roof. i was planing on gettin the whole truck done because of the orange peel in some other locations.
i hear a lot of people complaining about maaco, but my question is, wut paint job did u get? they have like 4 different kinds of paint jobs. i could see the cheapest $200 paintjob looking like crap but wut about there more expensive paintjobs?? im really interested in how much the base/clear coat paintjob is. and if i tape off all the detailed stuff like along the edges and the decals, it will turn out better?
theres another body shop near me called jeff's body shop in annapolis. my work gets all there cars fixed there but the last car that came back from there had dirt in the paint. but maybe thats because its a companies car and they dont care? mayb they do a better job on peoples cars? i dont kno. im probly gonna end up checking out more of there work when i get more money.

Message: Maaco paint jobs are okay, if you're not looking for the "best" gloss, I have a 65 Stang I had them touch up about 6 years ago, which turned out okay, but I used an independently owned Maaco, and was "up in their A$$" as they put it, to make sure the thing turned out right... basically it depends on how involved you are with em. the more specific you are, about what you expect, and how through you are in prep and follow through, the better it has a chance to turn out right... their products ( paints and such) are no different than other shops, and obviously they must be doing something right, or they wouldn't be the largest chain paint shop around. You want a show car, expect to have any shop charge around 5K to 20K for a paint job( NO joke, I've seen a 1969 Shelby Mustang with a 20K paint job, it looked like glass, and was as reflective as a mirror, in Red) want something that will endure weather, and get you through, a 600 Maaco job will do it. My 65 Stangs been outside in Georgia through winter and summer, and I have minor chips, and no peeling, but most of the damage is due to my neglecence in owner ship. JUst make sure you have some kind of Warranty, and KEEP YOUR RECIEPT!!!

Message: yea i was planning on carefuly masking around the edges and stuff. then tell them to mask over wut ive done and tell them wut exactly i want masked off. i figure if i do that, there will be no chance of overspray on handles, mirrors or anything else. im not sure if that would interfere with there sanding or not. my buddy i work with had his civic painted there and it didnt turn out too bad. i didnt however look at it up close and look at all the edges. he sold it tho so i dont know how long the paint will last.
im also gonna check with some other body shops in the area and check out there prices. the very max im looking to spend is about $2000. ideally, im looking to spend $1000-$1500. but since i dont have even close to that much saved up right now, im in no big hurry.
these are some of the other body shops i want to check out:

Message: I got a Honda Del Sol painted last Sept. at Maaco and payed 1000 bucks for it. They listed 4 levels of jobs. I got the next to best. I think it was like 700 bucks and the rest was for body work, ect. It was done ok, I wasn't happy with the hood in a few areas were they did'nt sand it real well and if you looked in a certain angle you could see the imperfections. Overall, it was cheaper then a "real" body shop. It made the car sellable and helped me get my asking price. Sooo, you do get what u pay for.

You answered your own question. Anyone who would willingly do the crappo paint job is not going to take pride in their workmanship and do a good job on the "expensive" one.
Real craftsmen will charge about $2000 for the whole car; just matching a hood would be a lot less, maybe $500 with all labor.

Message: Please post your results when you decide/get it done. My 98 clearcoat and paint are GONE on 25% of the hood and roof. Not to mention the tops of doors and fenders Every place the sun hits the top sufaces!!! (good thing I've been told by DC repeatidly, there's no problem with the paint). I am getting ready to repaint my truck also and would like to see what you ended up with for whatever route you go.
Thanks

Message: A friend of mine got his jeep painted at Maaco and I was really impressed with what he got for the money. I used to work at a body shop in KC, and the average prep and repaint was about 5K. He paid 700 for his, and I would have any of my vehicles painted at this particular location. Painters vary at the same shop, and it is best to find a vehicle with a paint job you really like at the location you're thinking about going to and finding out who painted it so that you can request him for your truck.

Message: I once had a Ford Truck painted at an "Earl Sheibs" (SP?) body shop. They advertised the lowest prices in town at the time.
I took off all the lights, bumpers, hardware, most trim, removed all the glass, etc. I scrubbed the truck with harsh detergents before I took it in to make sure all wax and grease was gone. I explained to them that I wanted a great job and would be available to assist in prep, masking etc. I even spoke directly with the guy that was going to do the spraying to find out what I could to help with the preparation.
They ended up doing a GREAT JOB on the truck, mainly because they knew how important it was to me. And because I was willing to help with the prep work which is way more important than the actual painting.

Message: For what it is worth, I had a red 98 Dakota truck cap painted by MAACO to match my 2002 SLT Almond Dakota. Three years later it still looks great-I was very happy with the work. The manager made sure it was a really good match with the new truck--wouldn't paint the cap until I took delivery of the new truck and he could match the paint. MAACO did all the prep (the cap was in excellent conditon)--four coats of almond paint and three coats of clear coat. I was very happy and would go back if I had an older vehicle or needed another cap painted. The job was done when promised. I had it done at the MAACO in Manchester Connecticut ($260.00 at MAACO--the Dodge Dealer wanted $625 buckaroos) My wife had one interesting comment about MAACO--didn't have a 5 star bathroom like the Dodge Dealer, more like a minus five. Hope this was helpful. Fishful Thinking

Message: In reply to the dent question, I have a cheap solution if it is not a sharp dent. I know I'll probably get laughed off this forum for mentioning this, but I actually bought one of those Ding Kings about two years ago, and the thing works awesome. I take pride in keeping my vehicles looking brand new, and can't stand the slightest imperfection. I have used this little gem to take out probably two dozen hail/door ding dents on vehicles, and you can't even tell there was anything there. However, if the dent is very shapt in the center it can't be removed completely, but will be made less noticable. Just my two cents for a cheap solution.

Message: Not sure how valid this is. Never used MACCO before but have heard a few bad stories from them. From what I've been told they tend to do an alright job, vehicles usually look pretty good. The only problem is, like somebody mentioned, don't go through the high pressure wash, heard a lot about ppls paint getting pulled right off after getting it done at MACCO. The next problem is there paint, supposedly after getting it painted at MACCO the next time you want to get it painted, you need to completely strip the vehicle, because there is something in MACCO's paint that makes it impossible to bond to after being painted.
From what I gather, they are good for the show n shine, sell the truck the next day, but if you want a good lasting paint job, you get what you pay for.
