 Subject: Distributor on 2k Dakotas?

I called a local speed shop to inquire about the installation of an MSD Ignition control box for my Dakota and I was told that the 2000 Dakotas do not have a distributor anymore, and so an ignition control could not be installed. Is this person correct? Anyone knows about this? Oh, he also asked me how many coils did it have.

That is true on the 4.7 each plug has its own coil for a total of 8 coils and no distributor no wires but that is only true on the 4.7 V-8.

So is true for the 4.7 V-8. I have a 2000, 3.9L V-6. Does my truck have a distributor?

4.7L = DIS (Distributor-Less Ignition System - Crankfire)
3.9/5.2/5.9L = Crankfire but still with a distributor (rear of engine)

So from what ive read there really isn't any reason to do anything to the 4.7L ignition system. Coil Packs are the best ignition right, or am i completely wrong??

To a point...yes. They do make aftermarket DIS Coils and Ignition boxes though. (MSD)

would it even be worth the 100+ just to upgrade the DIS COIL though?? Would the difference be noticeable

Do they really haev anything out for this engine
yet??? i contacted MSD a while ago and they said
they weren't goign o have anything out for a while
b/c of the design.....what haev you guys seen and
what kind of prices and what type of results haev
you seen?!?!?
