Subject: weird quad cab problem?
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello: i was wondering if anybody could solve this problem, when i open my drivers side front door, the interior lights come on as usual, but when i open my front passenger side door and both of my rear doors, the interior lights will not come on at all, it kinda sucks when i have to grab something from my truck's back seat at night i have to reach over and hit the rear seat light on the head liner in order to see, what my question is? is this normal or is all my wiring in the passenger side front and both rear doors shot or what? i have a 2000 quad cab with the 3.9l engine, no power windows or doors.

There is a switch in the door frame, you'll have to take the floor side panel off to get to. When the door is closed, it opens a relay. When the door is open, it closes a relay. This is how the lights come on or turn off.

I have a bad switch on my passenger door on my 95 CC that i still need to replace as it doesn't turn on the light.

Check this switch and the wire that connects to it. The switch, as I recall, screws into the door frame and has a push botton that sticks out in the door frame. There is a single wire connection on back.

I don't think it's a fuse, since one front door works and not the other.

I can't say for sure with the Dakota because I've never seen a QC w/o power doors, but judging by some other Dodge vehicles w/o power doors I'll guess that your Dakota was designed that way. If this is a new problem then it could be that the contacts for the door switch are corroded from not getting as much action as the drivers door or your body control module has gone bad.

no, it's not designed like that. i have the exact same truck, '00 QC Sport. no p/l or p/w and when any door is opened the int lights are on.

the switches are integral with the door latch. it's either the individual switches or the central timer module. i'd check all the switches first.

I agree, check the switches first, because they are the cheapest and easiest problem to fix. However, the odds of all three switches going bad at the same time are pretty slim. It's more likely the central module. That's a pretty expensive fix.

Hey dadio: if all the switches are integral with the door latch, how do i check to see if they are bad? i looked at all the doors mentioned, but i didn't see any switchs around the door latch, i have not owned this truck since new so i don't know if they ever worked, i have just been turning on my interior lights via the thumb wheel, do i have to take of my door panel to find the switch or what? or should i just forget about it and just go on doing the same thing i have been doing and just add it to the list of problems with my truck.

KJS, yeah you will have to take the panels off. they are integral with the latch. meaning, you'll have to remove the latch from the inside the door to check the switch.

but, as boB. said"the odds of all three switches going bad at the same time are pretty slim. It's more likely the central module."

that's great because i've heard horror stories of the dealer replaceing the heater core for like $1600. that's ridiculous.

by the way, i've heard you have to remove the evaporator core to get to the heater core. just thought i'd give a heads up incase you haven't seen that yet.

my heater core is still kicking after 5yrs/ 46000 miles(crosses fingers). hel i still have the original battery in my truck.
